My concern with the postings on this thread is that I know that many of them are based on heresay and/or rumor. For example, I know that no one really knows what Clyde's lobbying efforts were in relation to the USM Gulf Park science building. I know that sometimes legislators report what they think they know, but, legislators can be wrong. Another concern of mine is that character asassination is very easy on this board. Posters can say anything, behind the cover of no name, as I am doing now, and no one can verify the truthfulness of the post. I know this is the nature of blogs but I hate to see a career of someone questioned if it is not in the light of day. I will not ask your posters to lay off Dr. Ginn again. Just consider that if you had been in the administration of the university for over 30 years, what would you have on your record. I know he has many positive things he has accomplished. Thanks again Mitch. Hope you never have to face an attack on yourself like Clyde has had with this thread.
Dear LO: Actually, I have had my share of slams here. And the posts on this thread have been relatively mild compared to some I have seen. If you are a friend of Dr. Ginn's, don't fret too much about the negative posts. Like you said-you can't please everyone after a 30 year career. I can tell one Bud story "on the air," because I can look back on it now with some humor and I was the target. The Dean of CoEP called me in to his office and told me Bud was "furious" with me. I couldn't figure out exactly what it was that got his ire up, much less why he would be concerned with a peon Associate Dean. Apparently, neither did the Dean. The Dean soon informed me that we were both to meet with Bud in Bud's office (a woodshed type of meeting it appeared). At that point I started to get pretty angry. Dr. Ginn was not dotted line, straight line, or squiggly line in my chain of command. My NY attitude was aroused, and I told the Dean (not so softly), that if Dr. Ginn had a bone to pick, he was welcome to come to my office to chat. That was the last I heard of it. I guess the Dean told Dr. Ginn that he had a crazy Yankee, or some such thing, in his employ and to let it lay for the moment. But I do look behind me when I walk past the Dome now (a cabinet member central to this administration told me fairly recently that Bud is still very angry with me). I guess the point of the story is that the woodshed in the Dome has grown quite large in the past few years, and that this expansion has made USM a less comfortable place to work. Hence, I am now a recovering associate dean and enjoying every moment. Best, Mitch
Mitch, You should take great care to see that your FAR is great, your production of credit hours is high, your research is stellar, and that you are bringing in dollars to this institution. To have someone in power "still very angry with me" is not a good position to be in at USM.... even if your teaching, research, and service record is exemplary.
There is nothing more powerful (or dangerous) than someone who has reached the point that he can say phuqueit to the people who only think they have control over another's destiny. Talk about "freeing the power of the individual". My guess is that there is nothing to worry about.

Joe Paul was in the room when he asked me to do it. I said I'd "watch" but naturally did nothing because the idea was whacked, and the reason he was doing it was because he believed the grad student to be stalking the sorority girl daughter of a huge donor. This really can't be disputed but I can't give my name because I'll use this incident to back my more serious problems with USM.
This certainly fits his mode of operation. SFt and AKL's detective, enforcer, goffer, court jester, and snitch. What a career! And it ain't over, not by a long shot.

Are those all the names that you can call Dr. Ginn?

Sounds like a rather common type assignment that Bud had experience with.
Bud once related to some folks that he was sent by AKL to SFT to deliver a message. Cease and desist. So they then used the PRCC connection.
How powerful Mississippians take care of each other is remarkable. Get in a little embarassing situation, somebody can take care of it for you.
And....the PRCC person does not need a name put to this post.

The Fat Person has sung. It's over. No one else has anything else to say about Uncle Bud. Great Jehohsoheavy! Hoo Rah, hoo ray.

Let's match the quality and procdures of these dissertations with Lassen's at the appropriate time. Who is the chair of the committee? Who are committee members? Maybe we could have an academic review of the total doctoral process at USM.
It is time to begin rebuilding quality and integrity into our doctoral programs.
There are two Dr. Bud Ginns, I believe. Seriously. That is why he chairs so many doctoral committees. One is the assistant to Dr. Thames and one is a part-time professor who is a lawyer. I believe they are related.

I have been to the mountain top at Sodona. I have my t.c.m.'s and a.b.t.'s all in line. I do not live a double life or have dual personalities.
I will agree that there is Bud and there is Bud Lite. That's as far as it goes. The Bud in the Dome and the ELR Bud are one and the same.

We have always understood that Dr. Ginn had the power on the coast. Is it continuing or is it dimishinging? We know that our associate provost is beholden to Ginn and will follow his directives.
We assume the directives will continue to come directlly from SFT. Name the Dean of Education and Psy. Name the Chair of ELR. Name the Associate Povost on the Coast.
What else will Ginn direct? How about our next president?
The daughter of the prez who is leading us directly into NCATE disaster. Oh, that would be you, Dana. April is the NCATE visit, and the chair of CISE is incompetent.
I have it on good authority that this "Bud Ginn" character has a direct line to the White House and that Bush is "in" on the fix for the next President of our beloved university. Watch out all you rascally faculty! BWAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH He knows that you are all politically liberal (hardly true, BTW) and teeming to ruin the business dealings of all good capatalists in the red state of MS (like anyone outside of H'burg, Jackson, or Biloxi gives a rats hoot what happens to the State of MS - reference Katrina).
This thread is hilarious, you folks are paranoid & need to get out of Mississippi more often
When will Bud let us know who our CFO is going to be? He has been on the inside of every decision that has been made by SFT, he should know. Bud has named or has been influential in naming the Dean of the CoEP, the dept. chair of ELR, the Associate Provost for the Gulf Coast, and many others to somewhat powerful positions. So, will it be a Ginn influenced appointee?

Lest we forget....the Assistant Dean in CoEP.
Let me add another to the list. Dr. Ginn is also responsible for his protege, Dr. Trey Magarety, an ELR grad, being put in charge of the SPEGE and master's in counseling programs. Trey is a very interesting fellow, to say the least.

Gotta love Uncle Bud.
Does this make Ginn a Thames Tamer or a Dana Downer?
Awesome - this thread again! You're all paranoid and delusional. How many people have been dragged through the mud on this board? I beg to question: has there ever been any administrator that was "worthy" of the paycheck that USM provides? According to many of you, the answer is clearly a resounding NO

Why do you think most of the faculty have left since Thames took office (perhaps unprecedented in recent higher education history)? The Administrators in the Dome are the most incompetent, narrowly-focused, ill-informed bunch trying to run a university I have ever seen or heard about. Most of them - Grimes, Thames, Moore being the prime examples - simply do not know what a university is or how to run one.

Yes. Don Cotten. Andy Griffin. Jane Boudreaux. Carl Martray. Jim Sims. etc. etc. etc.
If you knew Bud Ginn's activities against me (Chauncey Marcellous DePree, Jr.--some of you are interested in Marc--Mark), you would be ashamed of youself unless you were Bud's friend. I have his picture and some information on USMPride. Go to his picture and information and have a real laugh. It's on you.

long ago reported wrote: AKL did not buck SFT's appointment or question anything in his administration because he made a deal. He made a deal with the powers that be, that if he played their game, when the time came for someone to follow SFT, his daughter would follow as president.
If this happens, as it was reported in 2002, it shows what a father will do for a daughter.
Reported may be wrong word, rumored widely may better describe the deal. I personnaly don't buy this rumor. I think she is far better off at Milsaps than she would be a USM.
But if the powers that be, including GNG, want it to happen, it will happen. They had enough power in 2002 to pull it off for SFT. The Lucas daughter would be an easier sell due to the fact that 95% of faculty want ABT...Anybody But Thames.
Look's like this conspiracy theory was just that, a conspiracy theory.
73 Novice, I'm surprised that you had to pull up this huge, old thread to make a simple comment. It's a lot easier to copy & paste the material you want to respond to in a new thread.
