The Marriott Downtown Memphis, TN
Octoboer 14-16, 2004
The AAUP's annual governance conference brings together faculty members and administrators to explore the special role that faculty play in preserving academic integrity. Plenary sessions at the conference will examine the roles and responsibilities of faculty in accreditation, the challenges posed by for-profit education, and the increasing exploitation of contingent faculty. The conference will also include panels and workshops on general issues of the faculty's role in decision making. . . . Roger W. Bowen, General Secretary of the AAUP, will deliver the Fourth Annual Neil Rappaport Lecture.
For more information, see www.aaup.org.
Registration deadline is October 1.
Hotel reservations need to be made by Sept. 17. (Call the Marriott number 1-800-228-9290).
SOMEONE FROM USM should go. The people on this board are on the front lines of all of these issues. The registration fee is steep--$300--but you get breakfast, lunch, snacks, and receptions with that. And you can just drive up, no plane ticket involved. Or perhaps someone who would like to go but can't could offer "scholarships" for USM faculty to go. What is happening at USM has national implications, folks.

There is no reason you can't join AAUP. I bet there is even an "adjunct" rate. Check their website.
