Will Shelboo be there to personally thank Dr. Hudson for spreading USM's good news all the way to TX???

Sounds like Reed must be "fly on the wall" or "pea under the mattress."

This reception sounds perfectly great! Do you happen to know whether the ubiquitous Aramark Gourmet Hot Dog cart has been contracted for the event?

Wonder if there is a dress code, too?  And a free t-shirt giveaway?

i think it shows the state of the relationship between SLT and TH that the reception is not in the administration bldg but is on the farthest west bldg on campus.  well away from the dome.

Did Thames personally, or under the aegis of USM, give a "going away" fete for either of the Dvoraks? I'm not being facetious. Given his great fondness for Mrs. Dr. Dr. Dvorak and the need to preserve her loyal silence, I wondered if there was some Thames-Mader orchestrated affair that somehow escaped the press. Shorts only of course.

Mrs. Dr. Dvorak, JD didn't "leave" the university, AE.  Same salary, different job.

Uh oh. You've just exposed my near complete ignorance of the tortuous relationships between USM and its many spin-offs and shell groups. I knew AD's salary was preserved, but thought she'd been "hired" by an economic development storefront organization unrelated to the university. I stand corrected.

Oh, what a celebration that day will be, though, AE!  Let's hope we can all be there to help send Mrs. Dr. Dvorak, JD packing back to KY!

That's shill groups, Austin Eagle, not shell groups. You must be a new employee with the USM carnival.

Reports from those in attendance indicate it was a perfectly great reception. SFT made the obligatory nice remarks. Lovely orchestra music (or perhaps that should read perfectly lovely orchestra music). Perfectly lovely parting gifts presented to TH. No hot dogs at the perfectly great reception. All reports indicate it was a first tier send-off. Perfectly great.

Googler,

Thank you for this moving description of the Hudson farewell gala. Reading your account was almost as good as being there.  Having heard Dr. Thames' eloquent,  soaring rhetoric on other occasions, I'd wager there wasn't a dry eye in the house when he concluded his remarks. Can you share with us the nature of the perfectly lovely parting gifts?

When the HA (ha ha) listed Angeline Dvorak in a sidebar with Hudson as one of the top administrators who had "departed," it was certainly confusing. A parallel move isn't a departure & taking a step down in overall responsibility while retaining the same salary is essentially a promotion.

AE, the report from the field did not elaborate on the perfectly lovely parting gifts. However, page one of Thursday's issue of The Student Printz has a photo of TH and his perfectly adorable twins accepting a perfectly framed mosaic.

The accompanying story ended with TH saying "We'll be back."

They're both grown...one of them married and with a kid of her own, I believe.

Did it really say that at the end???  That is too funny...and too true.  Watch your back, SFT!

BTW, anyone know when the online edition of the SP will be up and running again?

I think the quote attributed to Tim Hudson ("I'll be back") is just a regional or local courtesy remark - such as "Yall come, ya heah?"

Many technical difficulties are in the process of being worked out! Hopefully, everything will be where it's supposed to be by this time tomorrow (Saturday). However, if you cannot wait, right now you can see Thursday's stories by going to the specific sections (i.e. news, features, etc.)

1,000 pardons please as the students learn all the appropriate settings.

Thanks for your interest,
Maggie Williams, Printz adviser

Thanks so much, Maggie!  Glad to know that the online edition will be up and running soon for us out-of-town malcontents!

Dear Miss Manners,

In fact, President Hudson borrowed his "I'll be back" line from "The Terminator,"  Arnold Schwarzenegger's cyborg assassin character in the 80's movie of the same name. A longtime cinema buff, this film has long been an inspiration to Hudson,  and is rumored to have provided the managerial paradigm he employed with such great success while serving as dean and provost at USM.  Those who have witnessed Tim holding court at the Mahogany will vouch that when plied with toddies, he is prone to lapse into his own unique Mississippi inflected version of "Ahnold speak", quoting lengthy passages from the film with verve and gusto. Ahhh, he will be sorely missed.
