I heard that the USM Men's Tennis Coach was quietly terminated in recent days (Teddy Viator).  Anyone else heard this?

He may quit, but Noel was not terminated.

If USM loses Noel Polk, the administration has a lot to answer for.  While you (or I) may not always agree with him, he is an internationally known scholar and a fine teacher who is dedicated to faculty governance and academic freedom on the university (any university) campus.

I think some members of the community, and even some members of the IHL, fail to understand that faculty members, even at the greatest universities, disagree with one another on a daily basis. They sometimes express those disagreements in very forceful ways. Let us hope such internal debate continues on the USM campus. Such is the nature of university life. Faculty members such as Noel Polk are essential features of that life. Even the "hard sciences" are little more than hypotheses for testing and debate. If those disciplines contained only hard facts, there would be no need for university researcher in chemistry, biology, or physics. Students in those disciplines often fail to realize that what they read in the science textbooks contain little more than hypotheses waiting to be tested and confirmed or rejected. So let the debates continue! Disagree with Noel Polk - or with whomever you wish - whether its the manner with which they structure their sentences, cut their toenails, end a novel, or smash an atom.

What's the source for this rumor? Is Dr. Polk on campus and teaching classes this semester?

I meant "plume" not "plum." But I kinda like it the way I typed it.
