Agreement gives MUW more power over alumni association
JACKSON - Mississippi University for Women's newly defined affiliation with its former students gives the school's administration more control over the alumni association than most other state universities have over theirs.
The affiliation agreement says the MUW Alumnae Association must revise its name and draft a new constitution that must first be approved by the university president before going to association members for ratification.
MUWAA bylaw changes can't be made without the president's approval. The MUW president's alumni director appoints more members (four) to the MUWAA officer-nominating committee than the association president (three).
Most other Mississippi university presidents don't have such control over their schools' alumni associations, according to an analysis of affiliation pacts approved Nov. 15 by the Board of State Institutions of Higher Learning.
