"Going into the new fiscal year that started July 1, Thames made $260,000 a year, which included $210,000 from the state, $15,000 from the alumni association and $35,000 from the USM Foundation.
Pierce said the alumni association and USM Foundation decided to up their contributions to the president's salary to $50,000 each. ... The two foundations' increases will be retroactive to July 1, bringing Thames' salary to $300,000 for his final year."
Why not give $100,000 to the desperately underfunded library instead of to somebody who's already rich? Or $5,000 each to twenty loyal, overworked and underpaid employees? Or make a hundred faculty travel grants at $1,000 each??

Way too sensible, LVN, but a terrific idea--especially the library or the travel grants. Unfortunately, way more than 20 employees, especially staff, need that $5000.

Funny you should mention this, LVN. The rumor on campus is that there was another round of midyear "stealth raises" and one administrator received in excess of $40,000. I hear that Faculty Senate and AAUP may be investigating.
