IHL’s institutional executive officer search process allows Mississippi to be on the consideration list of the highest caliber professionals in higher education. The process is open, transparent and representative-based, and works in accordance with today’s recruitment standards for high-level institutions of higher learning. For more information on the Southern Miss institutional executive officer search process, including a timeline of events, visit http://www.ihl.state.ms.us/ieo_search.html.
Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, IHL governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
It's great news that you both are on the committee. Let's hope that your input makes a difference.
Hey, how many times do you have to post to get another title?? Is my D'Lo appt. being overlooked in the grander scheme of events???? BTW, the D'Lo grounds are a sight to behold.

We did an informal poll in the senate of how many were senators and it looks like eight. Joe, of course, is President of AAUP as well as being a senator. Myron and mary Lux are AAUP members as well. And damn . . . I just noted that they even put in Joe's AAUP President's title!
Nothing is certain -- but I do believe that this is a good sign that Dr. Meredith and the Board are operating under a different set of principles than previously . . .
By the way, remember that, other than those holding chairmanships in the faculty councils (Henry, Middlebrooks, Donna Davis) the other faculty and librarian were all selections agreed upon jointly by senate executive committee and the deans of the five colleges and head of the library. The Senate strongly supported Patsy Anderson as one of the coast candidates (of several nominated).
OK -- keep your fingers and toes crossed and don't loosen them until the end of March!
There is one strong supporter of the Thames' among the faculty listed, who is also very politically connected to the old guard (no secret to many of the other panel members). It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall of the discussion to see how this dynamic pans out.
There is one very strong Thames' supporter among the other appointees--and possibly two though I'm not sure. I agree. It sure would be interesting to be the fly on the wall.
I'm very pleased to see the committee list, however--Joe, Myron, Mary, Jim Wolfe, Bobby Middlebrooks--all excellent choices.

Maybe we should get somebody from UM. They know what a good president looks like.

Not a single "wurl klass" paulymer scientist among them. Interesting distribution of the CoST faculty, far from Shelby's roots and the new Economic Development efforts. Surprised that the list did not contain the following who would have voted for a dynasty:
Godwin Goff Urban Malone Hanbury (still in town) Evans (not Jeff) Morgan McCormack Dana
The press release from the IHL listed Ms. Poynter being from the University of Southern Mississippi. Looks like RS just made a typo in giving us that info.
If you really want to proofread something go to the IHL website and read the Code of Ethics statement that the advisory committee members must sign. If this the kind of environment that makes a search process "open and transparent"?
I can just see Justice Pittman being asked to swear all the committee in and that Mixon guy handing out the duct tape.
We keep hearing the line that "this is how most other presidential searches are being conducted." Has anyone really looked at this or are we just accepting this as fact?
The list includes Fos and Pood....at least we know they won't be president since being on a presidential search committee precludes being named president, right?

Remember, things are different now. Last time around, the campus advisory committee had very little input on who made the short list and no input on who was brought to campus or selected. I really hope the new rules allow the campus representatives to actually have a voice in the selection.
If you will remember, Dr. Shelby Thames was named to the last Presidential Search Committee. A couple of weeks into the search, he withdrew his name from the committee and applied for the position.
I sincerely hope that won't be allowed to happen again. Once members of the committee have seen the list of candidates and their credentials, it's highly unethical to then become a candidate oneself. Who wouldn't love a sneak peak at the "competition" -- but out in the so-called real world we've heard so much about, people usually don't even know who the other contenders for a job are, much less get to review their applications!
PS to Rod S. -- man, that avatar is really disgusting and gets more so every time I see it. Could I beg you to change it?

Thames was not on the search committee, he was on the advisory committee (only college board members are on the search committee). Also, he resigned from the committee before any applications arrived. He had plenty of unfair advantages, but sitting on the advisory committee for 2 or 3 planning meetings was not one of them.
Btw, Rod, I love the avatar. Every time I see one of your posts, I watch the loop several times.
