1. Word spreading that there will be several parking issues around campus this fall. New construction is everywhere, and there have already been some issues involving handicap parking in some new lots. No word yet on the availability of new parking decals. Looks like a 'hurry up and wait' scenario over the horizon. Thanks ntsft.
2. Someone reported on the board that there is more pink and baby blue in the new USM Barnes and Noble than there is black and gold. The mill has reported on this situation in the past. Word coming out that this particular BN enterprise is already a prime candidate for being "listed" as an "underperformer." Thanks grapevine.
3. It's a slow day. Here's some more from the former faculty/administrator contact of the mill regarding life at an 099 university: "...and many people often say that attendance is very low at open admissions schools. That was not my experience, at least. But I will say that while attendance is likely to be no different than what you experience there now, look for more relaxed grading to be necessary, as you would expect..... And, be on the lookout for some pretty sophisticated forms of organized academic dishonesty in a few, very small pockets of the student body. Many of the latest techniques on cheating that get reported in higher education-related periodicals are borne out of open admissions institutions. There were some fairly ingenious things happening in that regard at my former institution........"
4. Reports are that early polling has the USM athletics tax proposal support sitting at just under 45%, a far cry from the 60% needed to pass. Thanks gorod.

Interesting. During my recent scouting trip to the University of Lafayette County, I found that B&N stocked a very nice selection of blue & red merchandise but didn't seem to have all the textbooks in stock...

A good many open admissions institutions (e.g., all Mississippi community colleges) have attendance policies. Cut too many times & get dropped from the class roll. It's generally not at the instructors' discretion, although instructors may reinstate students who "cut out."
On the cheating front, camera cellphones & SMS are the latest tools. This has actually arisen at the high schools. With new anti-cellphone policies in place at high schools (e.g., Oak Grove), look for even more advanced technologies to appear soon.

Free advice: Don't lock horns with the Rev. Kenny Fairley. He's on a mission from God & has been since he was 15 years old (at least, that's when I first met him). He's also a USM supporter, so this one can be very interesting to watch unfold.
I've been reading and not posting, but I will say this:
Kenny Fairly is a shakedown artist in the Jesse Jackson vein. He has never supported anything but Kenny Fairly's back pocket. If Kenny Fairly is a man of God, I'm a spelling be champion.
But, you are right, he has a large socio-economic segment of Hattiesburg duped. If USM wants this past some better go give Fairly a big pay-off.
P.S. - Andrea just respond so I will know you miss me.
