1. Recent word from mclubber speculates that both North Carolina and Illinois will likely be in the market for new football coaches after this coming season, and JB will likely receive more than just passing interest.  The possibility of TN joining Bower in either C-Urbana or Chapel Hill would only increase the level of interest.  Of course, all of this spec assumes that SFT will attempt to oust JB after this year.  Thanks mclubber.

2. ladysader sends word that more and more businesses are starting to "fly" the WCC flag.  In visiting some area business about flying the flag, she reports being told (often) that area merchants have "been hearing good things" about Carey of late.  She also reports some success at getting the WCC flag placed above the USM one on a pole or two.  Thanks lady.

3. Stories coming out of the dome recently that TH is working on taking a small cadre of loyals off with him to Victoria.  Plans haven't yet been finalized, but are in the works.  Who knows?  Thanks ntsft.

4. New tales gaining legs that both CEM and LSM are starting to show a little outward concern regarding the (potential) rise of DVH.  More battles may lie ahead.  Seems LSM's work is never done.  Thanks gorod.

5. Word is that some of SFT's supporters are hesitant to begin writing letters in support of the tax proposal.  Seems they are wary from past battles with faculty and pro-faculty letter writers, and are not now anxious to take on the Reverend and his team of opponents in an all-out media blitz campaign.  This could actually become a sitzkrieg, with the tax proposal getting put out of its misery this fall.  Thanks grapevine.

If SFT is still the president when the vote is taken, I will vote NO!

If he is gone I will vote YES!

And I tell all my Eagle Club friends that is how I will vote. IF they want SFT, they get a no.

Bottom line, the tax increase will help both the city and the university. It is a Win-Win for both. And with Camp Shelby bursting at the seems, the tax will be paid off a lot sooner than the projections indicate. But athletics and the CBED worked hard to install SFT into power. CBED is feeling the wrath of that mistake now. Athletics needs to help oust the bigot, or face the result of their previous miscalculations.

DVH's rise would be a good thing for COAL and the University. She's got talent and integrity.

Why is that you all tolerate LSM?  LSM is the very person responsible for the jaded eye that the community has upon you.  As you have said in many posts she is responsible for deflecting the letters that cast the spell upon you.  Does she know what she is doing?  NO!  Pressure will be the tell tale of all.

I happen to know DVH personally & I agree with this assessment. While I'm sure that "professional advancement" is important to her, she isn't the sort that will sacrifice her principles to achieve it.

I do wish she had some more experienced mentors to guide her along. That's what USM has been losing, the older hands who can help cultivate new talent. Being a new administrator is a tough enough tightrope to walk without having to do it without a net over a shark tank.

"Denise Von Hermann"

My problem with her is that she has very little experience.  True, she is already in the dean's office and can presumably hit the ground running.  But she will need to work fast to introduce herself to the faculty (how many people even know who she is?) and to prove she is worthy of faculty trust.

For the record, I know several faculty members who have had bad experiences with DVH. I will spare you the details, but I'm not sure she's ready for Deanhood. COAL needs a really strong Dean right now, given the current politics. Sorry I can't come up with a better candidate . . .

DVH was a division chair, then a Dean at Gulf Park not long ago. She has some experience.
