Is this ALL colleges or just a select few? My sources around campus indicate that contracts will not issued till the raises are figured in, which = No contract yet.

How do you start work without a contract?  Remember, this HAS happened to people on this campus. Legally, it would be pretty foolish to show up for work without a contract. I signed my contract for the 2004 - 2005 school year back in May. As all are aware, that contract is not with USM.

My contract has arrived with my raise. Five percent is the increase.

With all due respect, it would be foolish not to show up for work if you assumed a contract was on the way. Why make problems?

Because SFT has been noted to have no intention of giving certain people contracts without any correspondence regarding the matter. If you are sitting well with the current admin., I'd question it. Specific examples have already been discussed on this board.

And by sitting well, I meant I'd too not be very worried about them arriving. But, if you are not sitting well - be wary.

Sulentic and Whiting were not given contracts even though Whiting had received a positive rec from the Provost for t and p and even though Grimes overturned the UAC's decision that MMS should have received a favorable Third Year Review -- neither person heard from Thames that they would not receive contracts for the 2002 - 2003 year. Everyone else in that Dept. received their contracts in their campus mailboxes. S and W did not receive a contract. Should they have shown up? You be the judge.

If you show up it's easier to make the argument that you thought you had continuing employment. At a minimum it might get you a few weeks pay if you were meeting a class.

Given the problems USM has - showing up is fine if you think the administration doesn't have a problem with you. Legally, it doesn't help your case if you, as a faculty member, has contacted the powers that be about your contract and they refuse to recognize your contact (or questions pertaining to your contract). Then, they give them to everyone in your dept. prior to the semester starting and you don't get one . . . . I think you could be in for some problems.
