Mlle. de Guerre and I need a spot of help, if you don't mind.

Does the Thames regime end at midnight on Saturday, May 19,or at midnight on Sunday, May 20?

Mlle. is contemplating plans for an observance and would like to ensure that all is done correctly. Plus a rather large champagne order is being prepared.

Thank you if you are able to advise.

Sincerely,

Hermione Angleterre, Social Secretary to Monique de Guerre

Board minutes for meeting of May 19, 2005

http://www.ihl.state.ms.us/admin/downloads/BdMay05.pdf

On motion by Mr. Ross, seconded by Ms. Whitten, with Mr. Patterson absent and not voting, the Board voted to return to Open Session. By consensus, the Board agreed to Dr. Shelby Thames' request to extend his contract as President of The University of Southern Mississippi until May 20, 2007, at which time Dr. Thames will return to full-time duties in the School of Polymers and High Performance Materials as distinguished University Research Professor.

WLOX, 5/19/05

College Board Extends Thames Contract Through 2007

..."The board appreciates the dedicated service of Dr. Thames to the university and to the community he loves,'' the board said in a written statement.

"The board understands and accepts his desire to return to his first love, the polymer science lab.''

The board said the decision was made at Thames' request.

"I'm thrilled to death,'' Thames said after the announcement. "There comes a time when everybody's got to move on.''...

Most helpful! One thus reads "until May 20, 2007" as meaning the term ends at midnight of the nineteenth.

Perhaps Mlle. de Guerre will have a small meeting, at which friends could solemnly watch the minutes tick away, on the Saturday night. The end of an era deserves the appropriate attention, followed by the proper observance of the new day (so to speak.)

I wonder if Chez de Guerre's budget can manage quite so much champagne, however.

Good afternoon to all,

H.A.

PS and won't it be wonderful, dear friends, that we can all join President Thames in being thrilled??

At the risk of seeming very gauche, I do hope that I and my significant other (of 44 3/4 years) will be welcome at your gathering. It will, undoubtedly, be the event of the season.

While Mlle. de Guerre's salon is not overly large, her friends are most welcome. If need be she will rent garden awnings, if friends will be mindful not to release Dervish or Dominique into the neighborhood. (One fears for the neighbors.)

However, Mlle. also wishes me to convey this message . . . "remember the Scouring of the Shire." I believe she means that while we will welcome a new day, much work will remain, and much mischief may still be accomplished by your opponents. It behooves all to go about our work with as much seriousness and professionalism as we can muster, remembering that we are teaching with every action and every word. (Even those who like Mlle and myself are not teachers, may still instruct by our attitudes.)

Of course, in the case of Mlle. de Guerre, attitude is everything. But that's a topic for another day.

And thank you, M. Boudreaux, for realizing that T. Fred might not be the most welcome party guest. I doubt we will be inviting the gentleman you spoke of, but if he is wise, he will also be glad to have left a bad situation.

Good evening to you all.

Hermione Angleterre, Social Secretary to Monique de Guerre

In this case, does the Thames Timer need an update or is it set for the stroke of midnight the 19th?
