Assistant psychology professor Tammy Greer asked Willis to produce data that would show a trend for five or 10 years when Shelby Thames was not president. Thames took over the top job on May 1, 2002.
"It's not that Dr. Thames is running people off, but when you just see his years, you think maybe he's been running them off since the get-go," she said. "In long-term trends, there are valleys and peaks."
It's not that he's running them off, it just looks like he's running them off?
If PUC people can't figure out how to get out of that group altogether, they just need to go to the meetings and listen to Thames (and be quiet). After the meeting, tell Braswell "no comment" and quietly walk away. They're doing more harm than good (as has been said so many times already).

The same people are there with the addition of ELECTED reps from Faculty Senate, Staff Council and Student Gov.
To answer bb mac, what can members do who were ELECTED to be representatives from their bodies to PC? They can't refuse to go to meeting if they are serving other bodies by being there.
Always, always give people the benefit of the doubt when they are quoted in the newspaper or even when they write letters to the editor. I've had enough of my letters, and even the column I used to write, get mangled in the editing process, that I try to assume that may not be what the person actually said.

I agree, LVN. I was pointing out the strange logic of this quote more than the speaker herself. I know full well that JB at the HA may have mangled it!
Tammy Greer is a really decent person. I would imagine that the question put her on the spot a bit, and she was probably trying to be as diplomatic as possible. She's in the CEP. You need to be very diplomatic there.

Educator is correct. I was there and Tammy pointed out that three years of data doesn't indicate a trend. You need to look at longer term data, say 10 years.
There was no question to "put her on the spot". She was asking Rus Willis for more data. I do believe she was being diplomatic in pointing out the data only reflects SFT term and is too short a span to see trends. A dip in such a small set of data means nothing, unless of course you don't understand math and have an agenda.

Exactly--they will say "7% increase in freshman acceptances" from last year, but fail to say what the long term picture looks like. But, that's because LSM is no statistician...she's a PR person, paid to be a mouthpiece. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!
Wizard: "Not so fast! Not so fast! I'll have to give the matter a little thought! Go away, and come back tomorrow!" Dorothy: "Tomorrow? Oh, but I want to go home now!" Wizard: "Do not arouse the wrath of The Great and Powerful Oz! I said come back tomorrow! The Great Oz has spoken! Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!"

This HA article report of the PC meeting says there have been 95 hires. If I am not mistaken, LM annonced 112 searches in January, and surely lots of vacancies occurred after that. Is the number of shrinking?

Re: The above posting. Question should have been: "Is the number of faculty shrinking?"
