I heard that all sections of Math 099 are full and closed. Discussions are underway of having students who need Math 099 to take a special course "on computer disk". They take the disk home and work through the math instructions on their own. They will be supervised by a Math instructor at MSU. It will be on a pass-fail basis, however the testing has not been worked out. All of this is being approved by the IHL Board.
In summary students will be taught by performing exercises on a computer disk(I forget the name of the company who put it out)and can consult with an instructor at MSU. If they pass some test they will have credit for Math 099.

This is NOT rumor. Faculty from USM are in Jackson now to meet with the IHL Board on this method of dealing with 099 Math.
The result of the meeting with the IHL yesterday is that the "higher ups" have decided to "outsource" Math 099 in this state. They will use software by "thinkwell" which has "lectures" on disk and homework will be via the web. One person at MSU will supervise all students in the state (good luck). Some think the sofwaret is outdated and much better programs are available, however, the "higher ups" have already made the decision. (What's new?)
