75 faculty leaving...Is Thames a patho liar?
Permalink Closed

I looked over babbs' list and counted 75 faculty that are leaving this year. Thames regularly reports that about 55 are leaving. He's about 50% off the true total (using babbs' list). Is he a pathological liar?

Yes, but the bigger lie is the widely reported number of faculty that is often touted to be 650+.

It would be great to have a firm number of tenured/tenure track faculty and to consistently report that number back to the media everytime that the bogus larger number apears.

Again, this is not to denigrate the efforts of hard-working adjuncts and instructors but there is a difference and that difference must continue to be noted.

I don't have the official figures, but I believe in the spring the count was closer to 480 and is probably less now.

Or did babbs make a mistake? Or was the list in some other way misleading? I know for a fact several of the faculty who left had nothing against Thames. Even when Lucas was here I remember people talking about the faculty turn over. Also, I saw two faculty on the list who knew they were retiring before Thames was ever appointed. On babbs' list we need to move away from speculation and show correlation.

As I've stated before, this is too difficult to do. People leave for a variety of complex reasons. Sometimes they will have had other issues, and Thames was just the last straw. How would you count them? I think babbs is trying to document the full number of retirements departures, which is the most accurate way to do this. Also, there is no way that babbs can know the intimate life details of all of the 125 people on the list.
