Especially now that the coast is being so effectively run by the COO.

This is the perfect opportunity to return to a single provost structure (and save 150K in the process). Jay Grimes is being paid to be a provost. Let him start provosting.

And how does this make him different from a lot of other administrators? I didn't know "having a clue" was a requirement for an upper level admin at USM (or most any place else, for that matter)

Grimes was a complete disaster. I cannot imagine a man more out of his depth than he was during his short time as H-burg campus provost. What a sickening thought to bring him back up here.
Remember when the dome switched Grimes and Hudson to the different campuses, and said that was their initial plan all along? ... Yeah, right ... Grimes failed completely in H-burg and this was the least costly way to fix the situation.
I don't care what you think of Hudson, Grimes is worse.
Doty actually earns about $20K more than the provosts do. I would think they would have to pay him even more than what he makes now for him to take it.

I'm going out tomorrow to buy a new suit and start applying for administrative jobs. Maybe I can get an extreme makeover and have my ethical sensibilities removed beforehand, so I can be sure to get the job.

Exteme makeover? YES. Have your ethical removed? YES. That would put you intention for the title of USM's administrative Poster Child. But I wouldn't think you would hav to buy a new suit.
Well, except that there is a rather splendid English professor (used to be at Vandy, maybe at Notre Dame now) named Margaret Doody. She also sidelines as a mystery writer.
The dark horse is Exline. She has the president's ear and is relatively unknown. The problem is that she's mean as a snake and dumb as a post. Exactly the type of person that turns Shelby on.

My sources also comfirm Exline as a possible choice for provost. Regardless, CEM will be MAD as hell because she (Moore) didn't get it.
