New Board Use
Permalink Closed

It has been several weeks since this board implemented its registration policy. Has anyone compared the number of persons posting to past time frames? Has the registration policy been successful? Are we having the dialogue that we had in the past?

It seems that there has been a reduction in the number of posts. It also seems that the rumors and the attacks on individuals has been less. Just an observation.

I know that there are those that will say the summer is dull. Well, school has started, and we have the most important year that we have ever had on the horizion. Let's talk about it. Does anyone have a plan about what we can do to impact our future?

We seem to have fewer posts because we do not have one or two people posting under many names on the same thread. We had over 75 registered users at last count. Maybe more by now.

Well, I for one haven't been posting a lot lately, because I've been busier than a one-legged man at a butt-kicking contest.

Perhaps one day "moderator" can fill us in one what the old board record was for the most different noms coming from a single IP address

Adding also that there's a new Bob Dylan studio album coming out on the 29th & well, some of us have had it since last Monday. And the old man isn't letting up at age 65, that's for sure.

Fourteen on one thread one night when I was watching.

Can we bring back the counter at the bottom of the screen that says how many people are online?

I took that counter off my own board because it showed WHO was online. I wish there were a way to show the number without showing the identity.

That counter isn't entirely accurate either because, unless I log off, I appear to be on this website - when, in fact, I'm not even actively on the computer.

Alias,

Why are you surprised? When you invite posters from a college to leave the Board, you get less participation. Now we have posts about who used to be in a department and some ex administrators who were marginal at best.

Cossack,

I did not say I was surprised. It just seems that there is much less activity on this board since registration was required. I miss the "no holes barred" action of the past FS and AAUP boards. There were many things that were brought to the light of day by posters on those boards. Maybe most everything has been exposed and there is not much left to shine the light on.

You might want to shed some light on the spread sheets the administration has prepared that evaluate each faculty member in terms of financial profit and loss.

Mudge, why don't you start a new thread about that spreadsheet deal. I heard about that, and was really shocked. If it's anything like I was told, the faculty should be up in arms -- except they're already so worn out with "battle fatique."

One thing I really like about registration is the ability to private message other posters without having to know their identity or email address. I've used that function quite a bit; in fact, there may actually be a lot of activity on the board that we don't see because people are messaging each other. Just a thought.

Someone with first hand knowledge should start the thread. For now I'll just say that on the spread sheet that was described to me, a Nobel prize winning book would probably not help your bottom line.
