1. With PREVIEW all but over now, the "Class of 2008" at USM is taking shape. Given the pattern of class enrollments, phrases like the "Class of 099" are already being thrown around admissions sectors of campus. Thanks grapevine.
2. More word from envelope on HD's legal troubles in the CBED. The appeal process is still hounding HD, who is reportedly using various delay tactics to avoid information discovery. Thanks envelope (we'll follow up more later).
3. More word that the mismatch between USM and B&N Bookstore may be too much. Apparently some of the higher-ups at B&N are refering to its new clientele as the "t-shirts and music crowd."
4. Many are still awaiting word in the merit raise issue. The mill is now wondering if all the money went to the Trent Lott Building, and that an announcement to that effect may be forthcoming. gorod reports, however, that yesterday's building announcement is purely a "reach for good news" (i.e., the $ is not really all there). gorod indicates that the local public is so numbed by the last 2 years at USM that most pay little (if any) attention to what's written about the campus now.
5. Related to number 1 above, artsy indicates being told that the relative quality of night-time classes will be up next year, since they will be (as usual) populated to a greater extent with nontraditionals and local kids from AP programs at various high schools around town. Thanks artsy (and friends).
You continue to post speculation about "099" classes when in fact the numbers enrolled at this point or much less than last year. I realize registration is not over yet but from looking at numerous posts on this board you would assume that the entire freshmen class is enrolled in 099.
