As we get closer to May 20, 2007 there are those in the SFT administration that are getting their golden parachutes ready. We all know that SFT has his golden parachute ready for sailing. Are there others? Who oversees these types of things? A new president will have not control of the "arrangements" that have been made in advance of his or her arrival. Have deals been made? What will these "arrangements" cost all of us over the years to come?

I am not concerned about those that move on to other institutions. My concern is that we will be saddled with people being put into "favored positions" that they could not obtain or hold on their own under normal circumstances.
For example, a high level administrator could retire, and then be reemployed on a part-time basis in a meaningless job here at USM at a salary higher than most faculty members. Another example, persons returning to faculty positions that are protected from the accountability that the rest of us have to deal with.
We have seen this to some extent in the past. I guess it is just the normal thing to do in a change of administrations.

I don't know how wise it is to be "rooting around" for a VP position at an institution that is about to embark on a search for a new president, who will likely want to assemble his/her own administrative team.
Joe Paul has managed to last through three presidents, and while personally, I think he does a good job, even he could be vulnerable in a new administration.
It will be interesting to see what sort of golden parachute the Associate Provost in Hattiesburg acquires for herself.
