I understand completely . . . and concur. However, the statement that the country in becoming more partisan and divided seems to me to be accurate. And I think your comment is interesting since you base your assessment on 'truth'.
There have always been differences of opinion about 'how' to best get things done. But, the sleight of hand diffussing 'truth' is, in my opinion, unprecedented.
I read recently that MM lied when he said, 'on camera' that he was not a democrat. NY state records seem to clearly show him as a registered Dem. And, residing in NYC in a condo which he bought for 4.5 million seven years ago.
And Bush and Cheney didn't "lie" when they said that they were going after Saddam because of WMDs that have never been found? I'll take MM's "lie" of being a Democrat over the Big Boys' lies any day.
Lies abound on all sides, my friend. This is what's most scary to me in current politics.
You may be correct about lies abounding. However with regard to Bush/Cheney, are you absolutely certain that "absences of evidence is evidence of absence"?

"Bad" and "good" are relative and subjective...ask any philosophy professor.
I take this all on a case-by-case basis (note the use of the word "some" above). "All-or-nothing" rarely works for me.
I can't remember EXACTLY what they said, however, certain liberal media keep stating that "they lied about WMD." I'm not sure they did, but I'm afraid if people hear it enough they won't question it.
I believe it has been reported also that even Slick Willie, our former Commander of Cigar, believed saddam had wmd, so did england, russia, etc. now...if i were faced with the same choice, given that info, i believe i'd reach for my .45

Let me rephrase the question in multiple-choice format: A poor man who votes for (a) Bush, (b) Kerry, (c) Nader is like a chicken who votes for Colonel Saunders.

Bush said over and over again (most notably in his 2003 State of the Union address two months before the Iraqi invasion) that there was hard evidence from the CIA that Saddam had purchased uranium from countries in Africa. This was later proven false. It doesn't get much more cut and dried than that. Even Tony Blair said yesterday that WMDs will probably never be found in Iraq.
We do agree on this point, OO--questioning on all sides should be encouraged. This, perhaps, is the most important feature of American democracy (other than voting!).

Hmmmm - intersting choice of words. Sounds like someone who is accused of racism replying "but some of my best friends are black...." Enough of this - back to the Gnome...."
All I was trying to do was to say that I have friends (and relatives!) of all political persuasions. Infer from that what you will.
I CAN'T STAND IT ANY MORE !!! This clearly isn't my board, and far be it from me to advocate quashing free speech, but what is to be gained in the struggle to "free USM" by persisting in this internecine political warfare?
Having said that much, allow me to vent my spleen, and be done with it. I'm a middle-aged Libertarian-Conservative who in the main, am thoroughly disgusted with both major political parties. I voted for "W", but I am neither an advocate of this war, nor a Bush cheerleader. I served in the Navy with John Kerry, same time, same Viet Nam tour, and have more than a passing acquaintance with him, albeit not for many years. Unless Kerry has morphed into an altogether different soul, which I doubt, we now have as the Democratic presidential alternative a calculating, self-serving, thoroughly unprincipled poseur, the perfect candidate, some would say. It saddens me to think that Kerry and Bush are the best (only) choices available to us. A true Hobson's Choice, not unlike choosing between Shelby Thames and Tim Hudson. Where are Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman when we need them? FWIW, I may end up voting for Ralph Nader, or Harold Stassen, or Bob Dylan.
It is more than unsettling to read the many comments from individuals schooled in critical thinking, who endorse, or worse yet, accept at face value the raving mendacity of Michael Moore's latest polemic. I've just returned from two weeks on the east coast. You may be surprised to learn that while there, I read opinion pieces by LIBERAL columnists in the Boston Globe and NYT lambasting Moore for his slimy approach to journalism, which, they argued, undermined their own legitimate efforts at presenting well-reasoned liberal views. I don't know if posting this link is allowed, but I commend to you "Unfahrenheit 9/11--The Lies of Michael Moore," by well known liberal and indiscriminate curmudgeon Christopher Hitchens. By all means see the Moore movie if you wish, but take notes, and then read the Hitchens piece. http://slate.msn.com/id/2102723
OK, OK, I'll shut up. It's time to slam down some blood pressure medication anyway, maybe even pop a Prozac or two. Sorry if I've stepped on any cyber-toes. I'll end this rant with a well-known quote from former Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Rodney King: "Can't we all just get along?"...At least until Thames is removed.

OK Invictus, you've convinced me. President Dylan it is. I'm off to pick up my Dylan yard signs, bumper stickers, tee-shirts, official campaign music CD...all the usual cute political activist trappings.

Don't forget the Victoria's Secret "Bob for Prez" wonder bras.
(After watching "Masked & Anonymous" twice, I'm kinda worried about Bob's concept of the future of America.)

Invictus,
Now you're really scaring me. Don't you think President Dylan's dark view of the future would be mitigated by his forward thinking Veep, The Honorable Kinky Friedman?

Truth,
As usual, you are indeed connected. Yes, the Kinkster is running for a Texas public office, but it's not mayor of Austin. He's running for governor, hoping to follow Dubya's path to the white house. However, civic minded soul that he is, I doubt he'd decline the opportunity to be Mr. Dylan's running mate. Now there's a real dream team.
AE...Thanks for that link to the review of Michael Moore's film...I hadn't seen it before. The author makes some very good points.
Now, as to Kinky...let me use a phrase i used elsewhere on this board...you have GOT to be kidding!

You're quite welcome. That Hitchens piece should be required reading, especially for any truth-seeking FH 9/11 movie-goer, IMHO. As for the Friedman candidacy, Invictus is now in possession of Kinky's recent essay from the Austin American Statesman, wherein he outlines his gubernatorial platform, reminiscent of the old Do Nothing Party. Perhaps he'll post it here on this blossoming political thread. Kinky does claim to be running for governor, but not seriously campaigning...yet.

I'll attempt to post it tonight. Of course, I'll check with the Statesman first regarding "intellectual property rights." Somehow anything involving the Kinkster would definitely be "intellectual"
I do remember that he had three goals for Texas: (1) a Texas Peace Corps, (2) establishing Texas as a "no kill" animal shelter state, and (3) opposing the "wussification" of the Lone Star State.
And now, I'm gonna go cue up "Waitret, Please Waitret" for those of you who know what that's all about
Rather than battling the intellectuals for their property, I'll just post a link to the Kinkster's website. I wonder if IHL might appoint him interim president...

My cup runneth over just looking at the headlines!!!
I realize that the democratic party spin on things, in order to try and elect john flip-flop kerry, is that bush lied about the war. Does the recent senate report suggesting the contrary have any standing?
I think one should have specific, concrete evidence that the President lied before simply parroting the liberal spin.

There is specific, concrete evidence that Bush has lied regarding Iraq:
