As we pause for mid-summer it is time to reflect, regroup, and renew.  To date, we have had great success.  GS and FG were not completely saved, but they were protected.  Not a complete victory, but success nevertheless in Phase 1.


The KY mafia is mostly gone (AD is hanging on, but neutered), and TH is on his last breath.  Again, not a complete victory, but great success in Phase 2.


Now more than ever we must begin systematic planning for Phase 3.  The order of the falling has been controlled, but "they've all gotta go -- clean sweep, etc."  It is almost time for a focused effort to take the king down.  When the king goes, the dark bishop, the out of control horse (referred to by Chess), and the court jester (my add) on the coast will also fall.


The attack should commence as soon as the faculty returns for the fall semester.  It will take multiple events to bring the king down.  Thought needs to be given about the length of the media cycle for each event (remember, even Hanbury only made headlines for a week), and things need to be launched carefully.  I don't have all the answers, but some ideas include:  1) number of students actually enrolled (perhaps also an analysis of student quality 2) careful analysis of the cost of administration in order to demonstrate no cost savings with reorganization 3) decline in success of fundraising 4) continued lack of faculty support (432-30).  These events need to be filled with facts, not rumors and accusations that cannot be supported.  We need careful planning now, not knee-jerk, shoot from the hip events later!


Finally,we must become more cohesivie and focused.  Stop attacking each other, stop reponding to Trolls (it only empowers them) curtail idle and speculative rumors (they hurt credibility).  Remained focused on SFT.  Stop pounding IHL board members (if we keep calling them names they will not support us).  This war will be won or lost in the fall semester.  The opposition is organized and planning to win.  If we don't do the same, they will be successful!  Without a well organized campaign narrowly focused on the King we will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!


And Bubba, I really is Checkers, not Chess!

I heard a report today that overall preview numbers are down 25 to 35% this year.  Further, very poor students are being admitted to keep the numbers up.  This situation needs to be monitored for three reasons:


1) USM has lied about enrollment in the past and may again (if this can be documented a second time it would not sit well with the Board).


2) Fewer students of poorer quality shows that the current management approach is destroying the university (again, this could be very harmful to the administration if documented).


3) Lower enrollment numbers mean fewer tuition dollars and will give the President an excuse to declare a financial emergency and try to lay off tenured faculty.


All of these things have been predicted and discussed for months.  The evidence is now accumulating.

Those preview numbers are completely bogus.

Thank you for this message. It was really great. In fact, I just took screen shots of it, printed it out, and mailed a copy to each member of the IHL and to the editors of the Clarion Ledger and Hattiesburg American.

Do you mean the rumored decreased preview numbers are bogus, or the "official" party-line numbers are bogus?
