Anyone made a count of the number of folks who left Ole Miss or State during that time period? That could be very interesting.

I wouldn't count this one, because Skilling never had any intention of staying at USM, and just used Geology to get his 'Green Card' before moving to the next available vacancy.

This is a list of those who left for whatever reason. I don't think motives are an issue.

curmudgeon--i agree as long as those who view the list don't make inferences about why people left. if those who view the list draw inferences, then motives (and other reasons) are important.

Kristy Gould is still here -- she just moved from Development in the CoAL to College of Health

Steve Doblin left well before 2002...And why would you include Aubrey Lucas in this list?.....Because he came out of retirment, temporarily?...You left off Jean Wiesenburg, wife of Denis. She was in Dev. at Gulf Coast.

On a similar note has there been an attempt to list all of the support staff that have left?.......You could probably add hundreds of names to thelist, however, at USM, turnover in those positions has been the nature of the beast.

all in all an interesting list of names above...sad to see so many fine folks not associated with USM any longer.....Having said that, there are others on the list that should have been run off years ago...

This is a good point; many of those on the list are retiring faculty who would have left regardless of the situation with the administration. Of course, some may have left sooner than they would have in a saner environment.

My view is that we are loosing the young talented people that we were able to recruit to USM due to past successes of our faculty, at least in COB. I suspect the same situation was happening all over campus. While we lost many of these high quality young faculty in the past, it usually was because of salary and they were literally bid away to Universities with better reputations than USM. That is, they were pulled away but would have stayed if USM could have come up with more money because they liked USM. I feel that it has now become both a pull and push situation. The new faculty are successful and command higher salaries in the market, but also are disappointed with the current environment at USM. The situation has been exacerbated by the departure of many talented senior faculty who had been instrumental in creating the environment. I am not optimistic that USM can bounce back, at least not quickly. One more bad President likely will finish us off. All in all, it is not a pretty sight.

Sarah Powell has not left the SChool of Nursing, she was on active duty at Camp Shelby and will return (thank goodness!) in the fall.  We still appear to hold the #1 spot for most losses

My quick count yields losses of 21 in English and Ten in history. Its amazing how quickly quality departments can be dismantled.

You are only half right Stephen. Kristi moved from development in the CoAl to development in the College of Health and then left to go to work for the Hattiesburg American.

Another person, while I am looking over the list, is gone from the Foundation (actually there are two not listed, but I will only list one) is Pamela Brewer, who left in January.
