USM ranks nationally for degrees awarded to minorities From staff, wire reports
The University of Southern Mississippi is one of several Mississippi universities ranked among the top 100 institutions in the country in the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to minorities, according to Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine.
USM was ranked 50th in degrees awarded to blacks during the 2004-05 school year, with 463 degrees awarded....
The magazine’s Diversity 2006 Report included the nation’s historically black institutions.
Jackson State University ranked 84th in the country for bachelor’s degrees awarded to minorities, with 792 degrees awarded in all fields of study.
In bachelor’s degrees awarded to blacks during the 2004-05 school year JSU ranked 8th with 789 degrees. Other schools making the top 100 from Mississippi were: Mississippi State University (69th) with 405 degrees, Alcorn State University (83rd) with 351 degrees, and Mississippi Valley State (93rd) with 321 degrees.
