I know. I know! It was the first woman who intimidated him.
Right you are. He told the USF crowd that he married the first woman who intimidated him to death. He also threw in that he wasn't sure, looking back, whether he had used the right strategy in picking a mate. Great job.

There was plenty of leeway when posters made comments about the social/drinking/extramarital habits of Shelby's people. Most of that stuff was unfounded. If you wish, you can view the entire Doty presentation at USF (online at USF's website...linked on this board somewhere) and can verify that he did indeed make that statement -- therefore, this is not a rumor post or a hearsay post, but a simple factual post.
You may not like what it says, but it is 100% true.
I'm holding my nose, but unfortunately I have to agree. If Mr. Doty said it in public it's fair game. However, I still think it's a stupid, juvenile waste of time to bring this up again, and I agree with Shrug there.
And on that note, dearie, I have better things to do my own self. Ta-ta!
Because Doty was a clod and said something stupid about his wife, doesn't make it ok for other people to use it to beat him up, public or not. It's low-class and disrespectful to Mrs. Doty. It's the kind of thing "gentlemen" wouldn't do once upon a time. That's all.

What's low-class is ability to present a professional image on a job interview, in a faculty meeting, or anywhere else. What's low-class is Doty's Russ Meyer hiring policies for the CoB dean's office staff. What's low-class is his inability to avoid making crude, lewd, and otherwise ignorant comments in public.
She married him, so she can put up with the fallout of his stupidity.
What's also low-class is your insinuation that there are facts that should be ignored because they might hurt someone's feelings. Welcome to the Dark Ages. Let's not talk about anything that might hurt someone's feelings.
Perhaps Doty's wife will encourage him to keep his mouth shut in public from now on.
Those of us who have dealings with the COB dean's office would appreciate some decorum from the "eye candy." To be greeted by someone with barely covered body parts, who yells out "Harold, can you see ___" when one asks to see the dean, does not present the kind of image one expects.

I kind of like that aspect of visiting the dean's office.
While this thread has been about COB issues, the issues raised are not isolated to COB. I have traced the chain of command from me to the Board and I cannot identify any administrator that I consider to be of other than dubious quality in terms of ethics, professionalism, and administrative ability. Perhaps other colleges have a different situation, but the stories I have heard would seem to indicate otherwise. A new President will face an overwhelming task to assemble an administrative team that is merely mediocre unless there is wholesale replacement from chairs to the VP.

I've heard exactly the same thing from folks I know and respect that are on the scene.

Some say that a fish stinks from the head.
And there is some science to back up that statement.
How interesting. The timing of the post by "Rot and Decay" which seems to malign faculty is a bit curious. Since Doty came to work today (at least as much as he ever does), I am left to wonder if the first thing he did when he got back to Hattiesburg is check AAUP and make such a misdirected post.
