Does anyone have any idea of what the summer enrollment numbers are and how they compare to previous years?  Second, what does fall enrollment look like?

Note: Since Hattiesburg UG has the largest volume, overall enrollment may be up.  Too bad we don't have actual numbers.

Don't you mean just the opposite? HB UG is listed as down and every other site is down. Maybe that's why we have not seen any numbers.

Incredulous, one of us is reading it incorrectly.  I saw "HB up 5.4% UG".  Is that not correct?

Today's Clarion-Ledger has a piece on summer enrollment since 2001 through 2005. In 2001 USM had the largest summer school enrollment in the state (8,252) while Ole Miss ranked third (6,959). By the summer of 2005 USM had slipped to third (7,312) with an 11% drop while Ole Miss was ranked first (8,629) with an increase of 24% over the period. It's important to note that this decline preceded the hurricane. It is also noteworthy that most of us were unaware of the falling enrollment. It would appear that our administration has been less than successful at achieving its goal of increasing enrollment, to say nothing of maintaining it.

No summer break for some college students

...Systemwide, enrollment is up about 3 percent since 2001, according to figures from the state College Board....

...The University of Southern Mississippi is the only one of the eight schools to see a sharp drop in enrollment, 11 percent.

Joe Paul, USM's vice president for student affairs, said the best explanation is that the decline came at the same time tuition rose. Most students have used up their financial aid by the time summer comes around.

He said that although final numbers aren't in for 2006, he expects an increase....

Sure, Joe. It was the system wide tuition increase that impacted USM negatively while the system enrollment went up 3% and Ole Miss went off the chart. It's time to reach into the lame excuse bag for one that might appear to make sense.

One great thing about micromanagement is there is only one person to blame.

If the faculty had known about this, perhaps they could have helped rectify the situation.
