The administrators couldn't get what they wanted--i.e. screwing the hard-working, productive faculty and having them like it. Gosh I guess Eb's really not as stupid as we thought, Harold!
So I guess the admins figured out the game--keep the cronies (er my co-authors) above the pack by giving them 8% raises-- and then the next year we'll go by a merit-based system and throw a bone to real scholars.
Well guess what Harry the damage is done. You've got people who couldn't get a job at JCJC making 100K. Crazy but it is the system at USM. Only way to get ahead is to leave or suck it up and suck up.
Why do you think USM tries to hire less thans in most depts? trouble is it's getting harder and harder to find less thans as the cronies get worse and worse. K Doty can you say "I'll flush my career and MS' tax payers money down the toilet?
Good luck Golden Eagles!
Only thing we can say for sure is this year's merit-based system will be entertaining. Can't wait.
Looking back to the old CBA and now CBED it seems that the slight-of-hand salary system continues to thrive. If you really pay attention to the administrators in the college you quickly learn that what is represented to you is not what they will do later. All the way back to the '80s this college was known as being a "good ole boys" club by many in the business academic field. Most of the administrative jobs are held by ones that have benefited from that club through the years, have had one situation or another covered up for one or another, have rewarded those that suck up each year, and punished or banished those that didn't. HD continues to reward the "boys" in the club.
That's consistent with my information. Some faculty who never published and were questionable as instructure, and never on campus, seemed to do quite well at raise time.

Don't worry Caught, they will use the same "holistic" approach to this year's raise that was used last year. The best 10% in the CBED will emerge on top, just like last year. I just wish I was in your college.

Is the CBED really different from any other college at USM? How much blame - or praise - does Doty deserve compared to the other deans? The tone from most everyone seems to be that all the shots are called by the round building, so what are the deans to do? http://www.sparkimg.com/emoticons/confused.gif

Sorry the last post didn't come through. I do want to share by two cents worth on this one.
I don't deal with the other deans, but I don't think the round building calls all the shots. When the last round of merit raises came out, depending on when you caught Doty, he personally secured the raises or the decisions all came from on high.
I believe the truth is this, CBED is a wasteland. Doty uses his position to punish those he doesn't like and reward his cronies. He doesn't need any direction from the round building to do this.

I've heard one thing Doty is not working on is getting documents pulled together in response to a recent FOIA request He says he is definitely not working on that. I wonder why.

Once and for all: how is this different from any current or former administrator? Cut Harold some slack. The man is working on it."
