for those who haven't seen the HA afternoon update:
Officials at the University of Southern Mississippi will announce a restructuring of the university’s economic development model at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the conference room of the Aubrey K. Lucas Administration Building.
University spokeswoman Lisa Mader would not discuss specifics of the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
Sounds like this is the rumored "move" for the ED program.
My guess - COST
Rationale - "We seek to optimize our assets by linking strategically to resource commonalities as we leverage our economic development model in world class ways. This will be accomplished through an integrated framework that maximizes our cost savings through a tactical and forward-thinking system of human and systems capital restructring, thereby moving our model in an accelerated fashion towards options that can best deliver on our world class status. We have sought input from all of our stakeholders, and they are thrilled and delighted at this movement."
Translation - "We are moving them - coz they ain't fittin. We made a shot-gun decision, without input, and now we have to make another one. Any questions?? See Rocco our problem resolution specialist."

Oops, should be "channeling." Queen of Spelling Bees needs more caffeine today!

I suppose USM will keep right on with incessantly 'restructuring' the university, year after year, college-by-college, department-by-department, on the whim of each new president, as new, fadish, flash-in-the-pan programs are initiated.
We have a winner! Mr. Wonderful's Award DuJour for today goes to Counting the days for his/her guess as to what the rationalle will be for tomorrow's announcement that the Economic Development Program will be restructured. Congratulations Counting the days. Your entry will be placed in competition with the other daily selections at the annual awards ceremony:

Since I am also evaluated on the FAR for "Economic Development", and my rationale was in reference to "Economic development restructuring", I will place your award under this section for reporting purposes. Thanks again for assisting me as I expand my economic development accomplishments.
Speaking of economic development, it is too bad musicologist Marian Wilson Kimber is leaving us. Her creative and successful small businnes enterprise (t-shirts) was a model of entrepreneurship. Her 2004-05 FAR would have been FAR to the top!

As you know, Prof. Wilson Kimber's funds all went to the legal defense fund.
