From the SunHerald article:

The lawyers handling the case for the board are Jim Craig and Reuben Anderson with Phelps Dunbar in Jackson. Anderson served as a hearing officer in April for a dispute between USM and two professors suspended by President Shelby Thames.

Thanks for the link!

At least now we have proof that Jay Grimes speaks:

"We're proceeding with every intention and hope that we will be offering these courses in the fall," said Jay Grimes, provost at USM in Long Beach. "As far as we're concerned, it's full speed ahead."

Wish he would be more outspoken on other important issues...

So, does anyone else find it a bit of a "conflict of interest" that Reuben Anderson, who was supposed to serve as the impartial hearing officer during the Glamser-Stringer hearing, is now representing the IHL Board in a legal capacity?  Seems to me even more proof that he was sent to cut a deal...

That is absolutely amazing that Anderson would serve the IHL board in these two capacities.  Granted, the two issues are completely separate, but it sure doesn't look good.  Whoa.  Some of you legal minds weigh in on this.

I believe, from what I have seen and heard, that this entire case was mishandled from the gitgo . . . from the university-level right on through to the IHL-level. Are USM and IHL not conversant with how other universities handle such matters?

Again, another "Amazing" coincidence. Pun intended: What were the odds of this happening?

From my perspective, it is becoming clearer and clearer why Stringer and Glamser felt compelled to "settle" at the hearing, rather than face what would likely be a "Kangaroo Court" before the IHL in Jackson.

Something STINKS about all this and I don't think it is my armpit!

It smells of rotten conflict of interest mixed with the manure of payback to Judge Wopner for getting rid of the messy career murder at USM.

Phew!

For any of you who have any lingering aches about G&S accepting the settlement when they did, please read the above entries about the Good Judge and his current association with with the IHL.  Gary and Frank would have gotten fried had the case made it to the IHL - I have NO doubt about this any more....

I just can't believe that Shelby & Co. (including the IHL) are so blasted obvious. It truly shows what they think of us - it sickens me.

I'll bet I am the only kid on the block that actually knows Gary Stringer, Reuben Anderson and Jim Craig.  If you look up "Straight Arrow" in the dictionary, you could expect to see any one of the three pictured.

I'm not trying to persuade anyone, and I agree this has at least the appearance (or, indeed, the smell) of impropriety.  My only point is that I would be just as personally disappointed if I learned that the Judge and Jim "cut a deal" in advance with the IHL as I would have been had it been disclosed that Gary had actually acted with impropriety.

I could be wrong.  I have been before. These are murky waters we are swimming in.
