1. Word out that SFT has been cold on CEM. Rumor is that she's been tadpoling (in the local business community of all places), and behind his back. Word supposedly got back to SFT quickly on this one. Thanks domer.
2. No news on the Trent Lott Center lately. Word is that SFT's new head fundraiser for the project doesn't have very much time to devote to the matter. Thanks grapevine.
3. Stories growing suggesting that LE's new recruits might not darken your classroom door too often (unlike JG's crew). This whole thing could get interesting. Thanks mclubber.
4. gorod reports words from some in Hattiesburg's legal community about 1 or 2 new hires inquiring about whether "various misrepresentations" made about USM during their recruitment process (by faculty and admins) are "actionable." The legaleagles say nothing is moving forward as of yet with these 2, but they say you can bet something will be likely to happen when the "class of 2004" gets to town this August and finds a wasteland/dictatorship. These leagles say if it they were on the faculty, they would avoid recruitment like the plague right now. Thanks gorod (and thank the leagles for us).
5. Word is that some of the 6% tuition increase that is going to cover "increased expenses" is actually going for "scholarships" to some marginal "recipients" given the impending enrollment problems at USM. Thanks artsy and ntsft.

At least some of that money, then will be going back to students. Your definition of "marginal" may differ from mine.
Even with the tuition increase, if USM turned a portion of it back into scholarships for community college transfers (many of whom you might call "marginal"), it would pay off in spades. Right now, for a rising junior with 64 hr in Harrison or Jackson counties, it's far "smarter" to go to the University of South Alabama.
For you folks who see no farther south than the Highway 98 bypass, on the Coast the SFT administration hasn't shot off a toe. It has blown off an entire freakin' foot!

We call that a sexual harrassment suit waiting to happen. dont' we?
Mr. Chain is concerned about the posting about the Trent Lott Center. Could anyone answer the question about the new head fundraiser? Have they hired someone new or has someone in the administration been assigned this task?
Mr. Chain is sending e-mails to Tim Ryan in an effort to find out the status of the project, but Mr. Ryan will not answer questions nor give Mr. Chain permission to represent USM when raising money. Since Mr. Chain has always been the primary fund raiser for this project, he is confused about yet another change is the process.
It is a sad state of affairs when the national chairperson of this project must ask members of this board for help because the administration is so unprofessional and nonresponsive.
Ran into a musician in the grocery store earlier today. He/she told this story. To be honest, he/she was not sure how true it is but is sure it is pretty close to the facts and is !*** because this person's program needs financial help.
SFT raised the arts fee for all USM students. Every penny goes to the band. This person is not quite sure of the amount but the band already has a huge scholarship and operating budget.

Since CoST doubled laboratory fees, this is not surprising for the Arts.

Opps, I copied the wrong quote.
