This letter in the HA should provoke SFT backers:

"It is wise to think before speaking

Regular reading of the letters to the editor over the last two years has thoroughly convinced me that Shelby Thames has the solid support of the ignoramus faction in Mississippi. Who are these people? What planet did they come from?

Some have suggested that these faculty bashers are anti-intellectuals. That label would be a compliment. They sound more like charter members of the Flat Earth Society and the Know Nothing Party.

An age old question is: Is it better to remain silent and be thought a fool or to speak out and remove all doubt? Perhaps the faculty bashers should consider the former option. Though I doubt that they will.

Joseph B. Parker

Hattiesburg "

Didn't know Dr. Parker retired. He will be greatly missed.

Here's a thread on the Sun Herald message board. Take a look and please chime in!http://forums.prospero.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=kr-biloxigenera&msg=2582.1&ctx=1

To paraphrase Mark Twain, I am pleased to say that reports of Joe Parker's retirement are greatly exaggerated. Joe is not going away any time soon.

So sorry to spread that misinformation....it was his wife who retired, not him.
