1. A few stories are coming out that the only complaint directed toward SFT from his business buddies is that he gives away too many admin positions in the dome to "out-of-towners" like the Dvoraks, etc.  It seems a few of them are trying to coax him into hiring some of their friends/relatives this time.  Word is that he's considering the possibilities.  Thanks domer.

2. Word is spreading now that babbs' list could rise to over 125 shortly (there are 113 now, including the recent loss of the Stringers).  More prominent names are possibly on the horizon.  Word today is that the COAL dodged a bullet over the past few days.  A very good offer was turned down, for now, by a prominent faculty member there.

3. As pointed out by the threads on this board, things are so hot in the CBED now that I've had to train another operative (compaq) to work with envelope solely on CBED issues.  The latest tale is that Doty wants to cut the number of hours required for CBED majors down to 9, and he supposedly has a faculty committee building up the paper work on it.  Thanks envelope (put compaq to work tomorrow).

4. Word just out that the central admin is considering a reorganization within one, maybe even two, of the five colleges.  They want to generate another $300K to $500K in "savings" (that can be touted in the media) through consolidation/elimination of departments and administrative positions.  Thanks gorod.

5. Tales are leaking regarding a minor cat fight between AD and LSM.  Apparently, they were engaging in "water cooler" conversation about AD's "troubles" when LSM suggested that AD take the MS Bar and work with MD and JH in the law firm.  AD reportedly bristled at the suggestion, and stomped off.  The minor spat was witnessed by a few, who note that LSM gave AD and "face" to her back as she (AD) pouted away.  Thanks domer.

Well, they've nearly killed our excellent nursing program so why not put it out of its misery and let everybody there go over to WC.  That would save a bunch of money.  Then they could kill Geography and TH out of SFT's hair.  They ought to get rid of History, since we don't want people actually remembering any of this stuff.  After that they can eliminate Continuing Ed and take over the floor of the new building that CE helped PAY for and give the space to cronies.  Hmm, what else.  Oh, by all means get rid of Accounting.  They could be dangerous when people start to follow the money.  And fire the librarians, anybody can check out books and those people know WAY too much.  Gosh, I bet I've saved a half a mill in one paragraph.  Maybe I should come back to work over there after all!!

Good ideas, LVN!

I read in the HA tonight that Mississippi is going to house prisoners from Colorado (only the ones with problem behaviors). So maybe we could take all the problem college students from there and collect out of state tuition! Another money making strategy!

Heard that TAMU is interested in someone in Foreign Languages for a competitive masters program. Could be more than Gary Stringer heading to College Station.

I read that article, but my thought was to accept "trouble" prosoners in our prison system if a university in Colorado (or anyone, for that matter) will accept a "trouble" administrator from MS.

<SARCASM>
Why worry about savings of this magnitude when USM is obviously rolling in cash.
</SARCASM>

Any institution that has money enough to create $140K off-the-org-chart "risk manager" jobs or to offer to pay half the salary of a VP to the ADP to get rid of said VP, well, that institution doesn't have a compelling case for "saving" money through reorganization.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul saves no money.

Invictus,

Don't forget about the million that will be saved by not matching the John Donne Grant.

I doubt that department consolidation will eliminate administative positions, unless Department Chair is counted as an administrative position at USM. And if that is the case you won't be seeing any administrative cuts above the Chair level.

Well of course she "stomped off." Ms. Mader's modest proposal presupposes that Mrs. Dr.Dr.Dvorak could pass the MS bar exam. She's never passed any bar exam, has she? Had she done so, it surely would have been included in her meticulously crafted vita. Moreover, what's her incentive to exchange a fat USM salary and benefits, for a fledgling law practice with a questionable future. Someone in her household has to bring home the bacon, right?

At this point, I really miss webster and the refrain,
"product of a national job search." This seems to me to be the very problem with Thames. He's hardly been out of the state and can't imagine that there might be people better qualified for the job elsewhere. If you want to be "world-class" you have to have the world as your pool for job searches. Just what we need, more cronyism and nepotism. On the other hand, after the past year, no one from elsewhere is going to want to come here, at least not anyone truly "world class."
