I got a call yesterday from a friend who now teaches at Mississippi State. He told me that Fogelsong has already scheduled meetings with the respective colleges on their turf. His stated goal is to get input from faculty on the university's needs, wants, and future direction. My friend said that this is the first time in a decade that any high level administrator has done something like this at State and that many faculty are extremely pleased at this step. While we may think Fogelsong is bad, he is apparently already changing minds in Starkville.
Shelby could have accomplished much of his program (such as it is) without all the stress and turmoil if he had done the same thing. People are always more supportive when they feel they've had input into the decisions.
I hope he keeps it up. The test will be when he starts proposing changes in what the entrenched faculty at MSU value. In the Business College at MSU, there are piles of dead wood faculty who have been successful in resisting change. That college will have a ways to go to catch USM, and even further to go to catch Ole Miss. To move to the level of Alabama, LSU, or many other SEC schools will take years and much blood on the floor.

You may think Fogelsong is bad; I don't. Matter of fact, I don't have any opinion of him whatsoever, except that, in general, I respect folks that have served honorably in the US military.
I do have reservations about the process by which Fogelsong was selected.
