There are restaurants, shops, antiques, parks everywhere. They've done a great job with city planning, so every new development has lots of green space. They have upscale stores like Talbots, Chiccos, Joseph Banks. They have great movie theaters that show everything. The terrain is not as beautiful as that around Hattiesburg. But the campus is huge and beautifully maintained. And Texas are very, very welcoming, friendly people. I hope the Stringer have fun there. I would."
Two things fueled the dynamic growth of TAMU. The first was when it 'integrated' (for an Aggie that means when they allowed women to matriculate at A&M). That was a bold move for A&M.
The second major factor was when they selected a new university president who focused the university on making sure liberal arts and the humanities were a cornerstone of the university's educational mission.
After those two occurred, Texas A&M exploded. For those who want to research this, selected issues of The Texas Monthly from the late 60's - early 70's provide excellent investigative journalism on the subjects.
When I have spent time on the Texas A&M campus, I have always felt a strong similarity to USM. Only they had vision, we have provential 'managers' who are in reality affraid of doing what it takes to be truly 'World Class.' As the saying goes, "Talk is cheap!"
Speaking of Gary. One of Shelby's good friends, the incoming president of the USM Foundation, is reported to still be adamently stating to people that Shelby was right about G&S. Everyone else is wrong.
I wonder why someone is so loyal to SFT in the face of public information to the contrary? Could it be that he is also handling the investments for the USM Foundation. A conflict of interest you ask? It would be interesting to know the answer. I wonder what Phil Bryant would say about the president of the foundation also being the point of contact for the investments for the foundation.
About 15 years ago the University of Texas had a similar arrangement, until their state auditor showed that the UT Foundation had been good old boy'd out of several hundred million dollars. But we don't have to worry about that, do we?
As has been said before, isn't it interesting that Stringer's "criminal" acts didn't seem to bother TAMU at all? Kind of shows you how the rest of the world views the climate at USM.
Well I wonder if TAMU thinks they will be getting their monies worth! From what has been said he is just another lazy whinner. After all the letter he wrote to the administration blasting Myron Henry for getting apid the big bucks and only teaching 2 classes was real stincky and shows his true colors.

I'll leave the complete troll rating process to others more qualified and experienced than I; however, could this one be awarded an extra point for the unintentional humor contained in 'whinner'?

BUCKO,
I can't imagine that, at any major university, a productive scholar such as Professor Stringer would be asked to teach more than 2 3-hr. courses per semester. I give this troll a minus one (-1) for such a display of ignorance about universities. Most faculty - and administrators - at the other universities with which I am familiar would say that even that rating is far too generous.
WACKO - you are an ignorant, brainless individual. I would tell you to go back to flipping burgers, but I wouldn't want to insult the hard-working individuals in the food service industry by considering you worthy of that position.
Since your into name calling I guess webster has to be fair and let me! Everyone knows that Stringer and Glamser were worthless bumbs. You can even add Stephen Judd and Bill Scarborough to the equation.

Put my name on that list too. I'd prefer their company to yours anyday.

Difference: no conviction for Stringer and Glamser. Again, I ask you: if they committed any crimes at all, why have no charges been pressed by Angie Dvorak? (and why is she no longer in her job as VP, too? Think about it.) And why are they both employed elsewhere now? Tulane and TAMU would think twice if there were *any* basis to these egregious and erroneous charges. Get a clue, Wacko Jacko. S&G were right all along--that's why the KY Cabal is gone, gone, gone.

Bumbs? We are clearly dealing with an undergraduate here, and a not very bright one at that. Don't feed the trolls. Don't bother to tell him about Bill's recent book award or Stephen being selected to chair his department. "Bumbs," eh? What a hoot.
I have an observation. I will put in the form of a question. Why do the trolls who post on this board, and who believe things at USM to be hunky dorey, seem so incredibly ignorant and uninformed. The posters who write in defense of academic freedom, shared governance, and the other academic values shared by great universities, on the other hand, come across as literate, informed, and thoughtful. Is this a distinguishing characteristic between those two groups in general - on and off campus?
