Naming university president in secret wrong

I am a three-time graduate of Mississippi State University. I also worked for my university for over 22 years, until retirement 10 years ago. For sure, a process cloaked in secrecy does not qualify as professional. But, that is what the search process for a new president at MSU was titled by its author, Tom Meredith ("'Preferred' MSU chief named," March 28)....

...This "Jack in the Box" method of informing us of our next president, is no way to run a place where folks send their sons and daughters to be prepared for making a living.

The University of Southern Mississippi should get ready. It will be next to feel the thrill of this "professional ride," and Ole Miss should know its omnipotent doctoral alum, Meredith, will secretly professionalize its chancellor when it next makes a change!

In executive recuiting, 'privacy' necessary

I am disturbed and at the same time disappointed that Clarion-Ledger editors do not understand the fundamentals of recruiting and hiring, especially for executive level positions. Privacy is paramount in the search for top-quality candidates....

...Mr. Salter has unfairly used his "media" connection to vent his opinions which should not be necessarily considered to be based on facts....

So quit the looking for the dark and look for the light. If you look for the light, you find light; however, if you are always looking for the dark, you reside in darkness.

Bob, it doesn't have to be one or the other; the search is not mutually exclusive.  I think people, in general, and journalists, in particular, are best served by looking for the truth irrespective of whether it is "light" or "dark".

Meredith wants top secret searches....but when a sitting university president interviews 3 times in 6 weeks he seems to think this is o.k.

Stakeholders at MSUW seems o.k. with Claudia's job search.   President of alumni association along with others are quoted as saying they are glad Claudia is staying put.

Bottom line Tom wanted to call all the shots.

Since he's now the man in charge of the state's institutions of higher learning, I think he should call the shots. That's what he gets paid for. If he does a good job, you will forget about all this. If he does a poor job, he'll get "promoted" to president of Delta State, MVSU, Alcorn, etc., and you'll get somebody else to moan about.
