1. Some stories are trickling from across town at William Carey indicating that their tv ad campaign - jacked up during the Glamser-Stringer crisis - is working to pull some students from USM. Informal polling being done by their admissions people suggests that the ad effort has already paid for itself. Thanks grapevine.
2. Some indications are that attendance at football games this fall will be very poor. Every day more and more decide not to make the purchase of tickets. Thanks mclubber.
3. New rumors are indicating that the Kim Chaze article in the HA was held back for a time so that it could have information added making Horace Fleming look most like the cause of USM's legal troubles (instead of Thames). The large chart accompanying the article was supposedly added after the article was written, at the request of some "USM officials," who are rumored to have been privy to an advance copy of the original piece. Thanks formeruno.
4. Stories are swirling that several more faculty/staff losses will be announced at the end of June and beginning of July, even though the list is over 100 already. Thanks gorod.
5. Stories are making the rounds that with the arrival of Pete Fos, SFT will have a good group of puppet deans at his disposal, thus clearing the way for some variant of the Jim Hollandsworth prediction about the future of the Provost position at USM. Thanks insider and oasis.
6. Tales that the "no national search" practice begun at USM by SFT in hiring administrators is making its way to the hiring of faculty now. Reports from CBED and CEP indicate that this practice is taking off of late. Thanks envelope and sigi.
Thanks, guru for posting again!!! You've hit on several rumors that are making the rounds in several different places. People who might know more than just a little about the Kim Chaze one think the HA pretty much thwarted SFT's efforts on making it anti-Fleming. A big lawsuit that has Thames names all over it will diminish that purpose when it hits the courts in the fall. Think you'e right on about the WC one too. Thanks for the info/rumors.
Thanks guru; Re: Season tickets, my info comfirms this is true. This may be used against Bower, allowing Shelby to point out that a coaching change is needed because of lack of fan support and declined ticket sales. (see another thread: Bower vs. Thames)

Sadly, it is probably true that declining sales will be blamed on Bower, rather than on Giannini (who is really responsible for ticket sales). Moreover, it is corporate sales of blocks of season tickets that can really make or break the total sales figures. These are the very groups that are extremely easy for someone to ignore if their actual goal is not to sell tickets.
It is also possible that this whole declining ticket sales hoo-hah is pure FUD. There are plenty of folks, myself included, who quit attending sporting events when Thames became president for that reason & a little "fear tactic" might seem to the AD to be a way to scare us back into the fold.
Giannini is the reason USM cannot progress to the mythological "next level." He's taken the ball & run with it as far as he can, but his inherent ignorance of South Mississippi is beginning to show.
If Thames/Giannini attempt to run Jeff Bower off, I will shift from "passive" (not buy tickets) to "active" (encouraging people not to support USM athletics). I hope others will, too. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT 'MISTAKE' ALUMNI LIKE ROY KRUMB WANT TO HAPPEN.
