"The Area Development Partnership, the region's economic development arm, has apparently rejected an offer from The University of Southern Mississippi to transfer its controversial vice president for economic development to the ADP staff. And, along with that rejection, ADP has also reportedly turned down USM President Shelby Thames' offer to pay half the salary for Dr. Angie Dvorak at ADP. Thames proposed that Dvorak be moved from her position as USM's Vice President for Research and Economic Development to a position with ADP as director of the proposed new innovation and commercialization park being proposed to attract additional high tech business and industry to the area. . . Sources said Thames made an offer to ADP leaders to pay half Dvorak's salary from foundation funds at the University if she transferred to the ADP staff...."
The 2nd article begins by rehashing problems the board has had with the Glamser-Stringer controversy at USM and the more recent Larry Templeton controversy at MSU. Here's the kicker quote:
"Now, sources close to the Board have disclosed that consideration is being given to the termination of the Board's executive officer, the Commissioner of Higher Education, Dr. David Potter. Potter, who was president of Delta State University, moved into the Commissioner's post about two years ago on retirement of then Commissioner Dr. Thomas Layzell. Potter's appointment by the Board was a surprise. Sources said some members of the Board are concerned with Potter's handling of the conflicts on the two university campuses. Dr. Potter was away from his office during much of the time of the USM conflict because of the illness and death of his wife. Meanwhile, reports are the same alliance of Board members who sought Templeton's dismissal are leading the efforts to remove Potter. Insiders said if Potter is removed, his challengers are supporting Board member Amy Whitten, an Oxford lawyer, as his replacement. Whitten was not available for comment this week. She was named to the Board four years ago by Gov. Ronnie Musgrove."

That would be a disaster. Potter is the lone sane voice on the committtee and the only person with any real higher education experience. He appears to have played the role of mediator in each of the disputes and calmed down the rabid members of the board (Klumb et al.)

Let's see how long it takes for the CL and HA to jump on this one...where's the quote from the Mader Machine? Oh, I can't wait to see them squirm and spin this one!
Link to our discussion of this rumor...thanks to Lash LaRue for breaking the story first! Once again, our board community is waaaaay ahead of the game!
The terrible abuse Professors Stringer and Glamser experienced has evidently help create a domino effect, first rippling across the USM campus and now extending up to Jackson. I hope that Dr. Potter does not become another innocant victim.

I know little about Dr. Potter other than his excellent reputation, and I hope he'll be allowed to stay the course at IHL if that's his wish. However, don't sell Amy Whitten short. Those of you who've spent any time with her know that she's extremely bright, and politically adept. Those IHL yahoos are making a serious strategic mistake if they think Ms. Whitten can be manipulated. She can think circles around Klumb and his ilk.

Not scary....brilliant. Then Thames could line up a little something for himself with the ADP, and hire Angie as his personal assistant.

I wonder if SFT has ever been shown pity in the Federal City.
[I figure that, aside from AE, this board will find that comment easily as cryptic as anything Chess or the Guru post around here.]

I might be able to figure this out, given time, but right now I have "no time to think."

Simple. Bob thought it would be fun to get to go to Venice & stand around looking goofy while a supermodel who's younger than his own youngest daughter strutted around wearing her underwear. I can certainly dig it & I'm not 63 years old yet.
In his legendary 1965 San Francisco press conference, Mr. Zimmerman was asked what he would market if he ever decided to "sell out." He replied, "ladies garments." It took him 40 years to get around to it.
Perhaps we could get Shelby cast in a ladies undergarment commercial...
