Decreasing state support leads to higher ed tuition hike
By Robert C. Khayat Guest Columnist
"Recent public comments by state leaders regarding increases for higher education are misleading. The 2007 appropriation is but a small step toward restoring more than $100 million cut from IHL budgets since 2000. The "5 percent" salary increase is actually 3.75 percent and is only the second state-funded salary increase in the last six years. No one should be surprised by our need to request a tuition increase."
