Dayonne McGuire, a 15-year employee of The University of Southern Mississippi, will assume the role of director of enrollment and marketing for the Gulf Coast operation, said chief operation officer, Ken Malone. "Under our new focus of innovative customer service and programming, Dayonne will lead the sales team toward the mission of serving the nontraditional student," said Malone. "All Enrollment and Marketing staff, including Recruitment, will report to Dayonne, as will the Continuing Education unit. "Dayonne brings years of experience with the university, a MBA, and extensive community service to this position. We congratulate her for taking on this new role." McGuire holds a master's degree in business administration and is a graduate of Leadership Gulf Coast. She has served as president of the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, as a member of the board of directors for the Coast Chamber and president of the Public Relations Association-Mississippi Beach chapter.

Excuse me, but did you say sales team? What are we selling - Insurance, automobiles, Mary Kay cosmetics? Perhaps we should just come right out and tell the prospective student, "We sell dreams." When I first learned of this approach to student recruitment, I was flabergasted. That soon turned to disgust. That has now turned to sadness. Say it again, please, I don't think I heard it right the first time. Did you say sales team?
