The Princeton list of the 10 best university values in the US has just been released. It considers academic quality, student life, cost, etc.
There was a time when USM could aspire to tier 2 and that it might even hope to make a best value list. ( I think one of the small Miss. privates made a small college value list once.)
Does this outcome really surprise you? If it does, that in itself surprises ME! We have been coasting off the map since Lucas returned and then handed all this off to Tiny Thames.
No surprise. Just disappointment. And it is not just personal disppointment, though many of us spent the majority of our professional careers at USM, working very hard to make it a distinguished research university. I also am disappointed for our alums and for the community.

So . . . where was everybody when the car dealers captured the university in 2001?

The alumni who watched with open eyes while all of this was happening while sitting on their buffons, as well as the community, are getting exactly what they deserve. Many of them stood idly by for four years while their university was being pillaged and driven into the ground. That may be the only justice in this whole dismal affair.

Old athletic quote: What should have happened . . . did.
Fact is, our enemies have coopted some of our friends and gutted USM because in the late 1990s we challenged MSU and OLD Miss. That's fact. Plain and simple. And we let this group of traitors get away with it. For their part, they were too stupid to know how they were being played by Nicholson, Warren, Mixon, Howells and a few others. Tsk! Tsk! Shame on us!

Donald is dead right. Instead of talk and observations about Aubrey Lucas' actions 25 years ago,we need some direct action like they do in France.
