Professors may get pay raise

"I'm very pleased and appreciative of this show of support from our elected officials for the proposed pay increase," USM President Shelby Thames said in a written statement released Monday.

According to state college board statistics, the average regional salary for college professors is $63,065. In Mississippi, the average is $56,017."
