Marketing Chair returns to USM from "Sweden" after 2 weeks.  Welcome home.


Dean Doty recent contributed the 60,000th post on the aaup message board.  Good job Harold!


Congrats to Accounting on hiring a new Director.  If you haven't met him (no one has), there is a reception in the Dean's Conference Room next week.


A 4th economist will be leaving USM after this year.  Details later.  Congrats Dr. 4!  Now the chair of economics has an even number of searches to work on (he hates odd numbers).


SACS coming to campus in April.  Nobody in CoB cares.


Please have a meal in the Charcoal Room, it will soon be gone.

I just heard who "Dr. 4" is, and he is NOT the person I was referring to in my post yesterday.  The ecofin faculty I said had gotten a job offer yesterday is someone else.  Hehehehehehehehe

The 3 leaving are going to Albright, UTSA, and USanFran.  Dr. 4 is the 4th.  There is a 5th with an offer (not Dr. 4).  If the Dr. 5 goes, there will be an odd number of searches.  Things can still even out again, when Dr. 6 goes offline.  Remember that one economist turned down an offer about 2 weeks ago, or we'd be at an odd number now.  An acceptance there would have made Dr. 4 instead Dr. 5.  The person now contemplating an offer would be Dr. 6.

Great!  Econ should be in Liberal Arts anyway.  It may actually boost the published research output over there and will free up resources to hire faculty in the most important COB discipline - Finance. It's a win-win.


No business school succeeds without a strong Finance department. Ask any top-tier dean.

Finance is not looking to take positions away from Economics. The combined department of Economics, Finance, and International Business is a cordial department with a research culture. We get along and even have a few academic debates over lunch. Our candidates face real 3rd Year Reviews, real tenure reviews, and real promotion reviews. Moving Econ to CoAL would be a huge loss for the CoB. It would ensure that Doty's tenure as dean would be viewed as a catastrophe as opposed to simply a complete and utter failure. Sorry, boys. There is no rift between Economics and Finance to exploit.

I think another ecofin person may get an offer soon.  One in addition to persons others are discussing.  He had a phone interview recently.  In the works.

Did Doty tell the USF people that he had done more for the research culture at USM's CoB than any previous, or that he had done more to the research culture at USM's CoB than anyone previous?  Good gosh!

Just heard!  The phone interview was followed by a "phone offer."  Get this: a 2/1 teaching load max, and possibly a 1/1 load!  Other details still coming in.
