I failed to ask the server if it was because oysters were scarce or because some of them might be contaminated. Your assessment please. The Mahogony Grilll is serving oyster po boys, but I read just today in the SunHerald that the Mississippi oyster beds are still out of commission from the storm. I hadn't thought about contamination from the strorm. I guess I should order shrimp for a while.
It shouldn't be a problem. Rrestaurant suppliers purchase osyters from out of state areas where the oyster beds check out O.K. Besides, if the oysters are fried you shouldn't have a problem even with bad oysters. Of course, in New Orleans we always recommend you have a beer or two with the po-boy just to be safe. (Did you think we drank that beer because we liked it?)
