Exactly what we have been trying to say all along.  Frank, and to a lesser degree Gary, are far from "liberal."  They are, however, top-notch scholars who stand for academic excellence.  And there is wonder at why the Administration and community have tried to see Thames's actions as attempts to rein in "liberal" faculty?  The issue is not liberalism but rather academic excellence.  Most faculty, regardless of political leanings, stand for it - Thames and cronies stand against it.  THAT is the divide.

A lot of faculty members are quite liberal but sometimes act conservative in order to fool people and to fit in. Faculty members by and large are either living room democrats or closet democrats.

You sure don't know Frank Glamser! There's no "act" about Frank Glamser.

Good Grief! Invictus is correct, you don't know Frank Glamser. What makes America "American" is that there are a multitude of perspectives that all deserve voice. Labels of "conservative" and "liberal" are silly and devisive. We are all in this together.

I respect and listen carefully to friends who are "conservative" and "liberal" alike. There are important points on all sides (more than just two) that need consideration.

To label USM professors "liberal" or "conservative" or closet liberal just doesn't work.

The politicians running the federal government are Republicans (and many of the Democrats are closet-Republicans) and where has that gotten us?  In other words, even if your statement was true what the hell difference does it make?  Must we all be neo-fascists?

Wait, if they're all liberal, then how does pretending to be conservative help them fit in? It would be harder for a conservative to "fit in" --

In any case, since half the faculty are now gone, I don't see how anyone can make any kind of general statement about them. (You know, out in that so-called real world we hear so much about, a turnover like that would get most managers fired pronto.)

I know a many community people who are quite liberal but most of the time act and speak conservative in order to fool people and fit in.  H*ll I even know some who are atheist but attend church every Sunday because it is NECESSARY for business.  "When doing business with Romans, act like a Roman."

Maybe I should ask my liberal Democrat son who lives out on the Left Coast if he is just pretending to be liberal to "fit in"

Once again, LVN hits the nail squarely on the head.
