There has been discussion about renaming this message board to more broadly encompass the aims of the board (and to connect it with the larger USM community, not just USM-AAUP). Please post your ideas for a new name below.

Nay, varlet! My next line was verily "Signifying nothing," though might Macbeth Furnish not a few good lines. Thou must choose Again and haply yet again once more.

Morning Willie,
I'm familiar with the entire passage. Your point is well taken, but I believe the line I cited stands on its own. Now that I think on it, perhaps something contemporary from Dr. Dylan would be more appropriate. Or Kinky Friedman? Where's Invictus when we need him?
How about something with the word "bridge" in it, as in Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Waters"? (Not that I'm telling my age, but I did hear that song performed live before they broke up the first time.)
I like the FireShelbyII idea, but perhaps we ought to be thinking ahead to next year when (Lord willing and the crick don't rise) there will be many changes and transitions. Maybe a more positive name would be helpful.
The University gives so much to the community yet we cannot speak our peace about the community and certain events or the leadership without bieng called nasty liberal names; therefore, including the community allows us to speak out.
How about-- "Advocates for USM and Hattiesburg" The University gives so much to the community yet we cannot speak our peace about the community and certain events or the leadership without bieng called nasty liberal names; therefore, including the community allows us to speak out.
This (or something similar) sounds like a good idea to me.
Of course, I like the "FireShelby II" idea, but also agree that a more positive name is needed. But it needs to be something catchy...c'mon, creative people! There are so many creative board names here...I know that we can come up with something cool! I'm still thinking on it myself...
Do not change the name. This is one of the more valuable things that the USM AAUP does. I would argue that the events that led to the recently settled law suit might not have happened had there been the communication between faculty that now exists. Bad deeds continue because the information is not widely known. If a faculty member is abusing his position, informing the rest of the University and focusing on the issue through this Board is likely to stop that behavior. Even administrators will moderate behavior if their deeds get publicized widely. What administrator wants their spouse and family to read on the internet about the crappy things they have done?

The impetus for changing the name comes from the USM AAUP chapter. They will have the final say in this matter.
A few suggestions: --Mississippi Learning --Ways to the top --Nuf said --Listen Up --Screaming Eagle --MS up --Fire USM up --Plantation talk --Miss Southern --Gaggle group

You have misunderstood, Cossack. The AAUP wants to distance itself from this board and the opinions and posts posted here.
