Yeah, I read something about that when some angry e-mails were flying around, but I never could figure out who they were talking about. I didn't remember the e-mail saying it was someone from the coast.
I recall a post on this board earlier listing all of the benefits of being in a COB department. I believe a fourth year review option was included there (not sure).

dr. know, I'm looking for the post mentioned above. BTW, what do you know about the sabotage of a third year review that has been mentioned.
I read that post about possible sabotage of a 3rd year. I don't know anything about it. I don't even know who is up for a 3rd year review. Guess I should change my nom to "dr. don't know," or maybe just "dr. no."
I will say this, though. If a candidate has the department's support, I just can't see a Dean sabotaging his/her 3rd year review.
A guy on the coast didn't have a 3rd year review. He submitted his materials, but nothing happened with it. Don't know why. It was that time of transition....new dean....new chair...releasing of the former local boss on the coast. It wasn't that he got a negative 3rd year review; it was that he didn't get any review at all. So he was told to submit his stuff again, in the 4th year, but it was the exact same stuff that he submitted before. Nothing added to it.
dr. know wrote: Guess I should change my nom to "dr. don't know," or maybe just "dr. no." This is not a commentary on your post, only your nom. At one time, didn't you share that the "dr" preceding "know" stood for "don't really"?

Ok then, yet again, dr. know has no idea what you guys are talking about. Can you at least tell me a department? Well, earlier you said there were two, at least. So can you tell me what department(s)?

Did this happen in the 2004 - 2005 year span? New dean and new chair don't cut it. This is really strange. What happened??????????????????

It probably won't do much good unless you have good information about the coast campus.
Wow, this plan for MIS looks nothing like the plan he has put together for faculty in MGT/MKT. The key features of the MGT/MKT plan are:
Fourth Year Reviews for Assistant Professors --- Sinecures for Significant Others --- Course Presentation Payola --- Job Placement Services for Aspiring Deans --- 'No Fault' Promotion-to-Professor Contracts for Associate Professors --- Unrivaled Chairperson Salaries --- Sabbaticals for Service --- Professorate-to-Administration Training Programs --- Online Course Creation for New Hires --- In-House Publication Play-for-Pay Plan --- The Instructor Sweatshop Initiative

Looks like the old post was found. dr., what's the story with the "angry e-mails" flying around? Did you mean "angry posts"?

There were some angry e-mails flying around the CoB about a promotion application that was denied. Lots of things were said in those e-mails. Lots of things from the past were alluded to, and it seems like a fourth year review was one of them.
My very general area of research interest begins with an M. I can think of at least one junior faculty in my department who got a "second chance" third-year review -- a fourth year review. No mistakes or lost paperwork.
dr. know, what's going on in the college of business? Are you part of COB?
There are some problems (as if you couldn't tell), but it'll rebound. I really don't know much about the current animosity, which is why I ask SJ and the other posters for specifics. I can tell you that I can't truthfully place all of the problems on any one man's doorstep.
That last comment may get me flamed to dust, so the less I say about my identity the better.

Sports Center is on.
Without saying more about yourself, how would you parcel out the problems in the COB?

95% the SFT regime, 5% everyone else.
It's funny. When SFT was coming in, I remember hearing the former CoB dean say something like, "We're finally getting a president that understands and appreciates the role of the business college."

The former CoB dean didn't back that horse for long and ended up taking it in the shorts on a regular basis. Most people don't know how bad it was for BG because he didn't talk about it incessantly.

I've seen references to it here, but I don't know anything about it. I thought it might be another assertion without much evidence. What's it all about?

So, you generally think Doty has been a good Dean, unlike some others who post here?

Well, I'm still forming my opinion on a lot of issues, which is why I'm asking as many questions as you. But, for me personally, I can't help but think that it's a tough situation. Tough crowds...above him and below him. Inevitably, someone is going to get upset with him. I guess that's part of the job for every dean, but (in my limited experience) this has got to be an extraordinary situation.
What can I say? Sometimes he's right, and sometimes he is wrong. That makes him pretty much like all the rest of us.
