I do not have much sympahty for Grimes -- because he certainly knew what he was getting into. Tim Hudson -- like him or hate him -- at least tried to be a true provost. In doing so he ran afoul of Cynthia Moore -- who wanted to do much moore than bring SFT his cakes, cookies and coffee at meetings. She wanted to translate her considerable powers of design (unintelligent design?) to overthrow TH and become the power behind SFT's toadstool of a throne. The battles between CM and TH were legendary -- and she succeeded in isolating him -- becoming the queen of wurl class Southern Miss. TH escaped. Grimes should have never taken the job -- however he did. No doubt he remains emasculated (in a Bob Barker kind of way) and isolated. That he cannot do anything without the gentle touch of CM's whip should come as no surprise!
Fake kisses and mock respect in public, while privately they despised (and still do) each other. It was a bloody behind-the-scenes struggle for Shelboo's favor and the upper hand, while it lasted. Why do you ask?
The underground sources say that AD hated, dispised and loathed both TH and CM and would do anything at any cost to cut their throats and dispose of them in order to gain power on campus.

Your "underground sources" are correct. Angie had her sights set on succeeding Shelboo as USM prez, and he'd promised that he could deliver that prize to her upon retirement. In order to buttress her position, she seized every opportunity to undermine CM and TH. Timmy and Cynthia coveted the USM presidency as well. CM thinks she still has the insider's track, and I wouldn't be too swift in ruling her out as she's an adept behind-the-scenes operator. Other sources close to Uncle Tim report that he's very comfortable at the reins of UHV, but still talks about a triumphant return to USM at some time in the future. If drafted, he would serve.

I'm not kidding in asserting that CM still has the USM top job in her sights, and she is an accomplished backroom politician. Clearly she's not even marginally qualified for the job, but then neither is Thames. Surely we all now realize that landing a plum job at USM often isn't about your credentials, it's about the a$$es you kiss.

Yeah, she's already promoting herself as having single-handedly rescued the university from the evil clutches of SACS probation, thinking that'll go over well with the good ole boys at the IHL.

I do not know CM, but every indication I have and every discussion with people who do know her has lead to the same conclusion. Her position is basically a "Created" position that could be deleted, without even affecting USM operations at all. She does basically nothing, and what she does do is not done even remotely well, from what I understand.
For CM to be even considered for Prez is nothing but outright conspiracy thinking. But - stranger things have happened I guess.
I am in LA (lower you know where). So I don't know what this is all about. Can someone clue me in?
Certainly. The infighting and maneuvering for Thames successor has already begun. Jockeying for position are insiders Jay Grimes, Ken Malone, Dana Thames, Harold Doty (yep, you heard it here first), and the estimable Cynthia Moore, stellar candidates all. Each of these individuals aims to win favor from within and in so doing pre-empt "foreigners" with Hattiesburg connections who still have designs on USM, i.e. Frances Lucas, Tim Hudson, Greg Lassen, and yes, the completely repackaged Angie Dvorak. They hope to convince the IHL that hiring from within is the appropriate course for USM, continuing the great long-standing tradition of nepotism and in-breeding. Better grab a good seat. This is gonna be good.

I said it once and I'll say it again (and this is about all of them--foreigners and insiders: YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING!

You conveniently forgot Queen Joan Exline. She has been mysteriously quiet while jockeying for position. Her little helpers have been very busy, however.

You are correct, I did overlook Queen Joan, but the oversight was inadvertant. Though Exline fancies herself a player among USM's scrambling insiders, CM is working overtime to convince the power players that it was she and not Exline who orchestrated the SACS probation bailout. Blood may be spilled before that's sorted out, metaphorically speaking of course. As I said, grab a front row seat. This is getting interesting.
CM - who reminds me of a junior leaguer on speed -- or one of the rest as president would be a disaster of epic proportions. So bad perhaps that we yearn for the good old says of SFT?? Sickening thought.
Quelle horreur! Not the ensemble rouge -- who dresses these ladies from USM!! This is as bad as that yellow suit I will no longer discuss. Ma petite, you have the blond hair (so like my own. Do we have the same hairdresser?) This is too wrong. The red suit is not for you! You have been told that red is a Power Color. Whoever has told you this -- was it that other lady who is the decorations person? She may not be the one you should heed. She must not have your best interest within her heart. Bleu or lavender or pink or green, cherie.
Of course, pink is my signature color, you may wish to not use it.
I don't want to sound uninformed, but I'm relatively new to USM. Who is the lady in the red jacket? Most of these administrators are just names on memos to me right now.
