May 2007 is upon us. What will we do? What impact can we have?
This board has really taken a down turn. We need to look at the future. We can have some influnce on our destiny.
How can we get the detractors and trolls from using our board for their own purposes?
We need change....and we need it now. If we are going to be effective in discussing substantive issues that have an influence on all of our futures we need to get agressive in our approach.
I vote that first dude look at his calendar and remember this only 2006 so May 2007 is not upon us. Then I vote we remember that until we know who the next president of USM will be, we can't do a whole lot. What are registered names for staff?
hey weirdness, how weird are you? Rome has already burned and you suggest we just need to sit and wait to rebuild. Get real. You are the one that needs to check your calendar. You would probably say "it hasn't been that long since 2002. It has not been that bad. Time passed rather quickly."
Discussion and action on substantive issues and problems everyday is what we need. I fully realize that there are many things that we cannot do until we have a new administration, but do we just bury our heads in the sand and wait?
As a "staff" member who was a member of Staff Council during the last presidential search and assisted with the compilation of the surveys/opinions, I know that faculty, staff, and students on campus can only voice their opinions of the candidates. Whether IHL listens, is entirely another story.
If you will recall, none of the three groups supported SFT for president. Yes, he did have the outside community support. Yet, the "powers that be" (IHL) selected him as our leader.
I agree, it is not too early to try and save our university. But "in a nut-shell", our hands are tied; and we are at the mercy of IHL. We can only hope that the next president will re-build Southern Miss and bring us into a more positive light.
"I vote we go to registered names only for university staff...." Why university staff? We have less to protection than professors. We do not have "tenure" or any type of protection. IF faculty, staff, and students would stand together, we could accomplish a lot. But WE would have to be together.
Dear Faculty Friends, You are in essence rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. The ship is going down. It's much too late for any effective action. My advice to all of you-bend over , put your head between your legs and kiss your A** gooodby.

So we just give up. Let the master take care of us. Just sit and wait.
My first boss in my first teaching position instilled one thing in me: "To bring about change you have to be involved. You change an organization from within and if you are not involved, you will have had no part in it."
I wish I was still there to help you. Keep the faith.
The ship may be riding low in the water, but it is not going down. It may not improve much with new leadership, but I anticipate that who ever takes over will be up to their butt in alligators. A lot of the problems that SFT has created, especially in the financial area, will be up to someone else to solve. By that time USM will have to reverse some of the outsourcing, and SFT will have spent all the signing bonus money.
