Harvard president Lawrence Summers has resigned. He was forced out by an angry faculty. The greivances at Harvard were miniscule compared to those at USM. I call on the academic community to take to the streets, literally. No mealy mouth Faculty Senate. No quasi impotent AAUP. The time has come.
Never mind the barricades, let's take up a collection and get him here! Yeah, he put his foot in his mouth (and had his words somewhat twisted around by others) but at least he understands the meaning of the word "university" --

This comes as no surprise. A university president can not effectively govern without faculty support. At good schools an overhwelming vote of no confidence would be the end of the road.
The refusal of the IHL to even acknowledge the faculty vote in the spring of 2004 (let alone respond to it) must have been a killer blow to the folks in the middle of that struggle.
The Chronicle today indicates that Derek Bok has once again taken over as Interim President at Harvard. On a related note, has anyone read Bok's newest book?
It's amazing reading this FoxNews panel discuss how it is the Arts and Science faculty's fault that Summers is gone, because they are "liberal." But it is no surprise, considering how "Fair and Balanced" Fox News is.

Fox is the only network around not preaching the pinko, commie propaganda. Thank the Lord for Bill O'Reilly. You take Joe Parker and his tax raising buddies and ship them to Russia.
Please dont'. I disagree with Joe on many political issues, but I am reasonably certain he's not a pinko whatever -- in fact, he's retired from the Navy. I'm always interested to see remarks about Fox and the fact they are supposedly not "fair and balanced." CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC have their own take on issues, and I find them to be more left-leaning than not. Is it so terribly unfair to have one news outlet which is more conservative?
