I just got an email from a friend close to the domers. Apparently after the article came out today on Mark Maddox and "a day in the life...", a few irate alumni started calling administrators to ask about the classes getting cut short, the whole day's work for a day's pay routine. From what I hear, there'll be some hell to pay for the type of thing that was described in the article. I'd be a little worried if I'm in the CoB.
What you report is just what I feared. There will be a big backlash for people in the COB thanks to these two. You can bet that Doty will also do all he can to keep the whip off the people in management.
I read that article, and I'm having trouble understanding what the professors did that was so all-fired horrible. Let's remember, too, that this is a newspaper article written by a reporter who was by his own admission bored and lost. He contradicted himself on the time the first class was dismissed, for one thing.
I have stopped lecturing early in order to let people work in groups or work with me. Some people chose to leave instead, and usually paid the price down the road. I don't understand the uproar over this article.
I do understand that Mr. Maddox seems like a dedicated, hard-working student of whom USM should be proud.

I am proud of Maddox too, both on the field and off. He didn't stand up and say "let's go." Mr. "40 blazes of Hell" did that himself.
