How many of you here are like me in that, 4-5 years ago (and before), you had heard of Jay Grimes, (sorta) knew he was in marine science or one of the science fields, and had heard that he was a dept. head or mid-level administrator at USMGCC, but now, after 4 years as Provost, you wonder how he ever got a graduate degree, how he was ever hired at any level by USM or any other university, and even how he gets up and dressed every morning without assistance?
One of my friends on faculty has said the same thing. She actually thought Grimes was going to be at least an okay choice for provost and maybe a good one. Now she wonders how she could have been so very, very wrong--both about his character and his intellect.

I don't think the problem is his intellect. Character is a different issue. When people go on an administrative track they have to understand that character is not a valued trait. Compliance and obedience are.
