Lassen departure good for CoB
Permalink Closed

Gregg Lassen's departure will work to solidify the Associate Dean's position for the job once Doty is sent packing by President Thames.  Had Lassen still been on board, he would have gotten first consideration.  This couldn't have worked out better.  Now, on to the second stage.

Sorry, CoB guys, but I'm a bit confused.   I thought that your associate dean was a supporter and collaborator of SFT and gang from the "git-go."

Whether you like it or not Gregg Lassen was hired to do a job by A. Dvorak and SFT.   Gregg had all employees at heart and fought battle after battle to amke sure that they were taken care of.  Gregg's biggest hurdle was A. Dvorak and SFT.  Mr. Lassen tried and did his best to make USM a home for all.  At this juncture I do not blame him.  Again, his biggest battle was the A. Dvorak and SFT who did not care about hte faculty or staff.  My hat is off to Gregg and I wish him well.  If Gregg had been given the chance he would have really helped USM.  Greggg's ideas were good but you must remember that most of what he HAD to do came from SFT and A.Dvorak.  His power was limited.  Thanks Gregg.

the next time you see gregg would you ask him why he walked to work and then rode in a golf cart while on the clock?  either park next to the office or have have one of your underlings pick you up in the distant parking lot

I really am old. This makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Spare Tire - I'm sorry, but I think you are lost.

The way I've seen Gregg and from things I have heard him say, he was out to show that there was a different way to do things than what the USM body was accustomed to.

He found money sitting, without use, in funds that should be used and he DID put it to good use. That is feather #1.

He also spoke candidly and didn't seem to mind if he was not pulling or promoting the party line. That is feather #2.

Excuse me - what golf cart? If you are trying to say that Gregg wanted to get into a golf cart to travel around campus because he was too lazy to walk, you are nuts. He was always eager to exhibit the good effects of a walk and be an example on campus by his own walks from car to work. Give me a break. What a stupid thing to try to saddle him with that! If he took a golf cart I bet it was not his idea but perhaps (SFT) someone else's or was the most expedient way to get a particular job done quickly.

I do not like any of the golf carts on campus, they are annoying and noisy and I hate them. But, if they can create a more efficient day for those who we pay more than 100K, then let them have their carts and get work done!

Bye, Gregg. You'll do well wherever you go.

unexpectedly, i have had a couple of walks with gregg toward our cars. we talked about campus size and the like. his walk was always much farther than mine. in addition, i saw him once picking up trash (like cigarette butts) in front of LAB. by picking up trash i mean he had a garbage bag picking up trash--not just picking up the stray candy wrapper. i'm not an apologist for him but he struck me as having an attitude of "i cant expect others to do some things if i don't do it myself."

Well, by that "apologist logic" for Lassen's "raid" on departmental funds carefully saved from unspent "end-of-year" carry-overs, then his next job should be working somewhere in the Middle East, where his Amoco background should go well with "nationalization of assets."

"Feather #1" is straight out of the bank-robbers idea -- "I didn't steal those funds, they were just sitting there, without use."

Sorry, that was not what I meant. I mean there were other funds, possibly DOT funds, that sat in the till with previous people in the dome who knew not what to do with them and didn't care. Has NOTHING to do with funds AT the university, but rather funds that came from outside the university and were not being utilized.

If the situation was more like you described, I'd be outraged, but it's a different situation.
